What's Day Job About?

Day Job is a film that follows the grueling process of five startup teams in Toronto's Extreme Startup Accelerator. Day Job tells the stories of these teams going through the 12-week accelerator program and explores the hardships and sacrifices every individual makes to build their ideas.

Jeremy Potvin, CEO of Shifthub, talks about the difficulty of being both a father and an entrepreneur, and how he sacrifices spending time with his children to focus on building his company.

Jayesh Parmar, CEO of Picatic, talks about his wife being his inspiration and the sacrifices they both make to build this company. Jayesh and his wife are entering a time where they must choose between having a child or dedicating their time to chasing their entrepreneurial dreams

Who is Extreme Startups?

Extreme Startups is Toronto's premier startup accelerators, which holds a 12 week program to "accelerate" the growth of 5 promising startups each year. With mentors from the startup world's more seasoned entrepreneurs (i.e. Brian Church from LinkedIn, Jade Raymond  from Ubisoft Toronto, Chris O'Neill from Google). Extreme Startups provides a strong network of entrepreneurs to advise and mentor the next generation of promising startups.

Why We Need Your Help

We are over half way into the Extreme Startups 12-week program and so far this project has been entirely self-funded by our team. The filming, producing, editing, directing, composing, writing and cinematography has been all done by us. On top of that, we’re spending many hours following and capturing the progress of the teams on a day to day basis. This is an amazing project that our team is extremely passionate about and we think it’s important to show everyone the story and process of people chasing their dreams. We get to watch it happen in the office everyday and it is an amazing and inspiring thing to see. Please help us tell this story, we need your support and backing to finish this film and to be able to make it as amazing as we want it to be.

With the funds that we receive, some of the money will go towards the last bit of filming. We need to be able to focus our efforts for the next 6 weeks to capture everything that happens, it’s getting close to the final push and a lot happens in just one week. Most of the funding will go into the long process of editing and producing the film, we’re expecting around a 40 minute to an hour long film, edited down from 100s of hours of footage.

Why We're Creating This Film

We're creating this film because we fear that in our fast-paced, attention starved world, we have become obsessed with 'the end result', and have forgotten the most important part of creation: the process. Behind every product or service are individuals with big aspirations and the courage to see them through. We want to share their inspiring stories.

Special Edition DVD with Bonus Feature:

On top of having a physical copy of the documentary to hold forever and ever, you will get to see additional interviews with members of Extreme Startup's network including well seasoned entrepreneurs and investors.
