I first met Damian 7 years ago while working at In n Out. He was working towards his BA at UCSD and I was playing in bands. We were always supportive of each other, but 3 years ago with only 2 classes away from graduating, he had to move back home after doctors found deterioration in his hips. After a few years of test they finally diagnosed him with DKC.
Dyskeratosis congenita (DKC), also called Zinsser-Cole-Engman syndrome, is a rare progressive congenital disorder that in some ways resembles premature aging (similar to progeria). The disease mainly affects the integumentary system, the organ system that protects the body from damage, with a major consequence being anomalies of the bone marrow.
In May of 2013, Damian will receive a bone marrow transplant in the hopes of slowing down the progression of this disease.
My goal is to raise money for Damian and his family as he deals with undergoing a bone marrow transplant in Minnesota. All the funds will support the cost of travel, room, & boarding and the all around hardship for him and his mother durning the 100 days of intensive recovery.
We will be taking donations online and at the benefit I'm putting together for him. The event will take place March 28, 2013 at The Propagandist and will include various artists, bands, and DJ's. All proceeds will be going to Damian and his family to alleviate the financial and emotional hardship.
