If telecom would be invented today, it would look like CrowdFone.We stand for transparency, inclusion, and putting you back in charge of your experience.
We’ll launch initially in the Netherlands with mobile voice and data services nationwide: 4G, 3G and 2G. We do this very different from what you are used to.
Next, we roll-out our roadmap:
- Introduce ADSL and Fiber fixed services
- Introduce an LTE FEMTO network with lower tariffs
- Build a small cell network with lower tariffs.
- Expand to other countries
- And much more
How are we different?
Bundles are not good for anyone. They come with long contracts and hefty commitments. And you have to guess your usage for the next year. Or even 2 years. And if you get it wrong you're 'rewarded' by your operator by paying even higher rates per minute or megabyte outside your bundle, or by overpaying for the minutes or megabytes you didn't use. In either case you payed more thn you planned.
We'll offer an alternative, which gives you more control.
- One rate for pre- and postpaid:
No matter if you choose post- or prepaid, you pay the same rate per minute/Mb/sms.
Postpaid involves credit risk for us, therefore we charge a one-time fee of € 10 if you use postpaid. (Just once)!
No such fee applies with prepaid; you pay us in advance so there is no risk to us.
Control your spending:
Our app will have a slider, so you can control how much you spend per month (or week/day). And a warning level you can set so you don’t go over budget.
An example is below. In fact we'll add a separate slider for voice, data and sms, so you have full control over each service.
Unlimited prepaid credit:
Your prepaid credit remains valid indefinitely. So we don’t take your unused credit away after 6 months or a year, as most providers do.
Why? Well, we think it should have always worked that way. Taking your prepaid credit away would compare to opening a savings account with a bank, putting 100 euros in it, coming back in 13 months and hearing the bank took it away because you "didn't use it"..
The money is yours:
You can transfer money from your prepaid account back to your bank account. At any time.
To us, your balance represents cash. Your cash, to be precise. Therefore you should be able to treat it as money, and transfer it elsewhere.
We pay you interest
In countries where the regulator allows us, we will pay you interest on your prepaid credit balance at CrowdFone.
There has been much talk about a prepaid account being a bank account. Well, let’s make that ring true for a change.
Often, postpaid service is tied to a contract of 1 or 2 years.
With CrowdFone things work simpler: If you want postpaid, simply apply for a credit limit. If you are eligible, you’ll know instantly. And if not, you can simply use prepaid.
So you applied and got for example a € 100 credit limit. What does that mean? You can now call/internet/sms up to € 100. But you want to use more than that? No problem; top up your account with cash (with iDeal, Paypal, Bitcoins, and more), and you can continue beyond your credit limit.
Technically, much more is possible than what you currently get from the market. Let's work together on a richer experience.
Our App will be open source. We'll publish it on Github, so you can check, fork and improve it. We will not only publish the app, but also the development process itself. So you can follow, learn, or teach us along the way.
Not just our style is open, so is our API. You can build your own app, and reach settings deep in our core systems. Such as switching roaming service on/off from your App, or connecting your Asterisk server.
We'll build a FEMTO cell network, and make you benefit by cheaper tariffs. Read here what that means.

How will we use the funds?
1) If we meet the minimum hurdle of € 200,000:
Launch mobile voice, data and sms services.
We'll launch on an LTE network with fallback to 3G and 2G.
Build our open API platform
And connect it to the our first providers core. We will pay special attention to the security of our servers, the web-service and your data, including your choice for one- or two step verification.
Build our first App version
Where you can order SIM cards, recharge your prepaid account, start a credit check, toggle your settings, etc.
First on native Android, native iPhone and HTML5.
Introduce VoIP in the app
With lower rates than dialing via the mobile network. You can use VoIP in any country. Support us by buying the new VoIP credit Perk!
Start the open development process
So we can collaborate with you and each other in an Agile App development process which will be open from start to finish.

2) If crowdfunding goes above € 200,000:
If we go above the minimum threshold of Euro 200,000, we have a road-map full of plans which we'll roll out depending on the total budget. Such as:
Introduce FEMTO cells
With lower service rates if you are connected to such a cell.
Introduce visual voice-mail in the app
No more annoying messages, or codes to punch.
Allow you to connect your Asterisk server
Or other VoIP or PBX servers. For some real fixed-mobile convergence.
