Hi there! My name is Peter Young and I am a photographer from Nova Scotia. I'm 32 years old and heading west to look for work. My goal is to be able to work hard in a job that is rewarding, while getting to do the kind of photography I really enjoy on the side - in the great outdoors.
I have been taking photos since my Dad gave me one of his Canon film bodies and a couple of his lenses when I was 14. Now I am 32 and have been photographing professionally for the past six years.
When I graduated high school, I went to Vancouver, BC, for my first year of art school at ECIAD. I planned on taking a train cross country then, but it didn't happen. Due to cost, I ended up flying. But I've always dreamed of crossing this massive country by ground - and I see this as an opportunity to do just that, while doing what I love most - taking photos.
With the resulting photos, I would like to put together a showing of images and produce high quality photo books printed on silk paper that will make my photographs look their absolute best.
My aim is to hit the road between December 15th and December 18th, 2013.
It may seem like a strange time of year for this kind of trip, but I think heading into Winter and the Holidays that there will be no shortage of great photo opportunities across this great land.

What I Need & What You Get
So, my goal here is to raise $4000.00 to make this happen. This money will be used to pay for gas, food and lodgings along the way. In reality, I could make the trip in a straight shot for $1000.00: $600 for gas, and $400 for a couple of motel stays and food. But in order to really make the most of the trip, I would like to take my time and stretch the trip out a bit longer, allowing me the time to really see the Country and capture the best images. The money will also go towards production of the postcards and photo books that will be heading your way!
If you decide to help me out (which I will GREATLY appreciate!!) I have come up with what I think are some pretty great perks in return. From a simple hand-written thank you on a custom postcard (made from a photo from the trip) to high resolution digital files - so you can print one or several of the images from my trip as large or small as you see fit, blank postcards for you to do what you like with (each will be of a different photo from the trip), and a few options for photo books of the images from across Canada at the onset of Winter.
If I don't reach my entire funding goal, it doesn't mean the trip is off - I am going no matter what! The amount of funding I receive will affect how much of the Country I get to see, and how many images I will be able to photograph. If I surpass my funding goal, it means I get to take a little longer, see a bit more, and photograph lots!
This project is valuable to me in so many ways! I will get to fulfill a major bucket list goal of driving cross country. I will be able to do that while fulfilling my greatest passion - creating images! It will help me reach Alberta having had the opportunity to really enjoy our Country.
My project is valuable to you - and Canada - too! By helping me out, a great Canadian adventure gets to be had and told via photographs - and written stories of the adventure. It is a long way to go - about 5000 kilometers if I go straight to Calgary, but likely in the range of 7000 km when all is said and done. So much countryside, so many cities and towns, so much culture and wildlife lay between Nova Scotia and Alberta that there is no way this story shouldn't be told.
Other Ways You Can Help
Of course, I know not everyone can help out financially - but that doesn't mean you can't contribute at all! At the very least, please share my campaign with as many people as you can through facebook, email, twitter - even over a phone call! Maybe someone you share my project with will want to help make this possible.
Use the sharing buttons on this page to spread the word - I am eternally grateful for any and all help and support from everyone!
