Is the mirror broken?
We want to finally answer these questions for you and tell our story:
- What we've been through while trying create individual identities for ourselves.
- What it's like having the same dream as someone who looks just like the person in the mirror.
- And all the highs and lows that come along with it, starting from the beginning.
CJ and Damien’s documentary promises to go deep; we’re all dying to know what this fight was about.
We hope to inspire you, help people better understand twin brothers and the friction that exist and ultimately give you a look behind the scenes of what it is like competing against your best friend and at times your worst enemy.
Through our Thank You Program, we want to give you some free stuff, for a few minutes of helping CJ & Damien spread the word...

At a crossroad in their careers
Its the perfect time to not only recap their past struggle and success, but document what the future holds for them.
"Damien and I are at a point in our lives where we need to answer some serious questions." - CJ
CJ, has a major sponsor for the first time in 6 years.
Up until now, he had been battling not only the costs to stay atop the ASP World Championship Tour, but his own personal life conflicts as well.
- As the franchise face of a new clothing label, will CJ be able to usher in the brand's acceptance to a fashion fickle modern day surf culture?
- Is being on the world tour without his identical twin brother for the first time affecting his competitive drive?
- Will the mental and physical toll of being one of the top surfers on the world tour for the longest time wear on his desire to continue or will it fire him up even more?
Damien, for the first time in thirteen years, just narrowly missed re-qualification for the 2014 ASP World Championship Tour.
He is now tasked with a tough decision.
- Does he retire and hang up the competition jersey for good?
- Does he focus his energy on re-qualifying for the world tour?
- Or will he find another career path in the surfing industry?
Born & raised in Florida, I started out at a very young age shooting surf films for international brands such Quiksilver, Billabong, & Rusty.
I moved to Los Angeles in 2001 and have worked on staff at production companies such as A Band Apart & Anonymous Content and was one of the original creators of Maker Studios with a Director and talent development deal. I've directed music videos for record labels such as Interscope, Warner Bros, Capitol, & Sony; for artists Eva Simmons, A Fine Frenzy, Jason Derulo,The Midi Mafia, Bret Michaels, Miggs staring Lindsay Lohan, Mickey Avalon, Taproot and for brands such as Cosmopolitan Magazine, Nivea, & Planet Hollywood.
I've known the Hobgoods for over twenty years now. In the past, traveling the world with them making surf videos. I've always had the Hobgood's story in the back of my mind. It is such a tremendously great tale that needs to be told.
Also raised in the same small beach town (Satellite Beach) as CJ, Damien, & Justin, Rachael is a winner of the prestigious Academy of TV Arts and Sciences Documentary Internship.
She has produced non-fiction content for Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, VH1, OWN, BBC, Travel, Science Channel and the hit TLC film “Abby & Brittany” about living and functioning conjoined twins. Rachael joined the team because she is passionate about the project and believes that telling the Hobgood's story will inspire others to reach for their dreams no matter the obstacle.
Alice graduated with her BFA in photography from the University of California, San Diego. Born and raised in Los Angeles, she gravitated to the surf, snow, and music scenes at a young age. Alice has had the privilege to shoot documentaries taking her from the favelas of Rio De Janeiro to touring with rock bands throughout Europe. She has shot for a diverse group of artists ranging from Mexican electro-pop band Kinky to Kanye West.
Her commercial clients include TBWA/ Chiat Day, MAL, Deutsche, ESPN, FIFA, The ASP, Apple, and the American Humane Association. Alice has collaborated with Justin (director) over the years on a number of music videos. They instantly connected with each others’ sense of artistry, and more importantly, love of surf. Alice's passion for the professional sport of surfing and the opportunity to be a part of telling the Hobgood's story had her hooked and ready to join the team from day one.
