Hi. We’re Lunar Energy Productions. We are a New York-based theater company dedicated to transformation and reimagination. In a culture of habit, routine, and been-there-done-that fatigue, we believe it is vital to seek out the surprising in the familiar. To that end, our productions play with perspective and context in order to reveal unexpected aspects of stories and situations we thought we knew. Previous hits include Before Placing Me On Your Shelf (Manhattan Theatre Source), like the night by Katharine Sherman (The Tank), and a return of Before Placing Me On Your Shelf to the 2011 NY Fringe Festival where we earned rave reviews.

Now we’re ready to bring you our first full season! Our spring project entitled christopher marlowe’s chloroform dreams thrusts our innovative style into the film noir genre (with an Elizabethan sensibility and a fairytale vibe). There will be dames, there will be junkies, there will be hardboiled detectives and femme fatales, and whiskey and cigarettes, and dead flowers and lipstick and lace… With your support, this gorgeous play will run for 15 performances at the Red Room (a former speakeasy!) from April 18th – May 5th.

Lunar Energy’s work is made possible by our generous supporters. Making theater in New York is expensive, and as an emerging theater company we rely on charitable contributions for the majority of our funding.

We’ve chosen an extremely ambitious project to start our first season: a full-length original play by our Resident Playwright Katharine Sherman. This is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before, and if we don’t raise enough money for the production, you never will!

Every penny we receive from you goes directly into bringing our new production to life. We have a lot of work to do before then, so any help you can offer will go a long way.

christopher marlowe’s chloroform dreams is an Elizabethan noir fairytale that follows Christopher Marlowe, poet and private eye, and his dame Daphne as they fall into a dangerous world filled with drugs and gangsters. They’re Hero and Leander via Bogart and Bacall, with a nod to Kurt and Courtney. A meditation on love and addiction; a theatrical mixtape; a dreamlike collage of language, ritual, and myth.

We are asking for $3,000 to help cover the cost of renting the theatre, renting rehearsal space for the next month and a half, costumes, props, scenery, promoting the show, and paying the artists!

Any donations above and beyond our goal will be used toward our next production: a modern adaptation of Chekhov’s Three Sisters coming this fall to the Secret Theatre.

Our Company Members and Affiliate Artists include alumni of the Brown/Trinity Rep and Columbia MFA programs, Juilliard, The Stella Adler School of Acting, Yale University, The National Theater Institute, and Drama Centre London, as well as current MFA candidates at Harvard/ART, UC Irvine, and the University of Iowa Playwright’s Workshop.
