We are a non-profit that is starting a community run and community funded space . Our goal is to attract people from all of the different DIY and underground scenes in Chicago, and provide a place where we can begin creating and showing art, music, dance, and theater together. Members will pay a small fee per month (ideally $50 and under) in order to hold events and have access to a studio space, print shop, wood shop, and more depending on the needs of the members.
We are a collective made up of promoters, artists, and musicians. We previously ran other successful DIY venues such as Mortville, and the Beauty Shop. And have been in bands (Coughs, forced into femininity, and Girl Group Chicago to name a few) and in the Chicago music scene for over 10 years. We know what this city needs, and we have deep and sincere dedication to creating a space where all of the art and music communities of Chicago can flourish. We specifically want to showcase queer and female artists.
For those who want to be apart of the space, but don’t necessarily have a use for it, we will have low monthly fees for discounted admission to events, a monthly newsletter and calender, or a monthly care package with cute handmade swag from participating members.
We're looking for the space to be located either centrally (Garfield park or Humboldt Park) or on the South side (Little Village, Pilsen) depending on whatever we find that suits our needs the best. It will function solely as an arts and music center, thereby eliminating the stress and burnout that comes with a live/work environment.
Why do we need $10,000? Your donations will be used to pay the first couple of months rent to get the place up and running, and for building materials for studios and performance spaces. Ideally, we'd like to buy a building, but that might be something that's further down the road. Any amount helps, and who knows, you might be donating to your own project if you choose to be a member!
If you're a chicagoan who feels there's not enough great spaces in our fair city, we need your help! And if you're a touring performer who we've helped in the past, or plan to come here in the near future, then you should donate and help create a space that will benefit you! Or if you're just a person who likes our ideas and wants to make them real, we need your help.
