How exciting it is to be fundraising for a documentary focusing on the beneficial uses of circus arts. The project was all started by a generous grant from Clark University. The film will primarily be devoted to social circus. Social circus is a relatively new concept, for the sake of the documentary it will be defined as the use of circus arts to cause social change, and as a non-tradition support of a marginalized or differently abled  population. I know… very beautiful.

To document this concept I will be traveling around the world and conducting interviews in different social circuses. I will be spending two months with The Hiccup Circus in Uganda, who are just starting their program. I will be helping them start a coaching program for youth there, and documenting the effects of a brand new social circus. I will also be spending time with The Galilee Circus, with whom I have spent a few months coaching. They are a relatively established having been around for a decade. I also plan to be attending the American Youth Circus Organization Festival where many youth circuses from throughout America will be in attendance, many of which are social circuses. One such circus is Circus Harmony from St. Louis. They have been active for over two decades, and are one of the more established social circuses around. They have in fact visited an have been visited by the Galilee Circus creating cross continent social diffusion.

A section of the film will also be dedicated to the use of circus for the treatment of a differently abled population. Circus arts have been used to treat eating disorders, as a medium for play therapy, and as a therapy for people with autism and Asperger’s as a way of helping with sensory issues.

With hope this documentary will be used to spread the word of all these amazing causes.

Though the grant from Clark University is far from frugal It does not cover the expenses of cross continental travel. I am asking for $4000 here but the documentary will cost somewhere between 5-7 thousand. Every little bit will help. The funds will pay for travel expenses cell phones for the respective countries, immunizations for the time in Uganda, and the price of filming equipment.

The campaign needs more than just financial support, if you could all please share this on your respective social media
