Directors Video To Come Shortly
CASSANDRA In its core, asks the essential question many artists ask their mentors and themselves? How do I create a piece the world needs to see?
We are a group of over 15 students from Vancouver Film School (VFS) who have set out to try and answer this question by means of a dark and gritty short film about a young painter. The main theme of the film is Pride, and how far people may go to preserve it, even if it is false. Cassandra also touches on the theme of Duality and how it can become troublesome when mixed with too much Pride.
What We Need & What You Get
We are looking to raise $4000 with this campaign which will go directly to our art and post-production departments. Roughly $2500 will be spent on locations, set decoration and props, as well as lunches for the cast and crew during our shoot. We need to make a classroom look like that of an arts school and we need to create several looks of Dan's room while he isolates himself creating his masterpiece. The Production Design team can do this much more effectively on a full tummy. The remaining $1500 Will be spent on post-production sound and our perks. Have you ever watched a movie where the words were out of sync, or the lack of sound effects lead you out of the world the movie was trying to create, we really don't want that to happen to our film.
Your contributions could earn you things such as signed scripts, DVDs, mugs and more. Or, for you more generous types, a 12x18 canvas print of the films poster, an invitation to the premiere or even dinner with the producer.
Our 6 Key Roles (Producer, Director, Asst. Director, Director of Photography, Production Designer and Editor) are a group of hard working young people from 5 different countries who each bring something special to the project. We have worked together to create over 50 short films in school so far and find ourselves wondering if we could create a perfect piece of art ourselves sometime soon. This is the final project for our educations at VFS and your contribution could very well be the catalyst to a successful career for one or more of us. As you may know, Pride is one of the seven deadly sins and should our film become successful in the festival circuit, we already have a short film script for Envy and one in the works for Lust. Hopefully we can work towards producing the other six and making a profit sometime soon. For now the Cassandra project, being a student film, will not be monetized in any way and none of our team will draw a profit from the project besides the wealth of knowledge we look to gain during production.
Risks & Challenges
Being a student production, budget is our biggest challenge and that's what's brought us here. Should our campaign here be successful the next biggest obstacle will be locations as not everyone is willing to lead a group of 15 or more students take over their house for 12 hours a day for three days.
Our best solutions for this are our calm and collected ability to work together as a team and the contacts around the city r that each of us has maintained during our year at Vancouver Film School. These vital relationships will most definitely prove to be our saving grace should anything go awry.
I Other Ways You Can Help
If you simply cannot help us with funding, the Cassandra team would still certainly appreciate if you could spread the word in your communities through word of mouth and social medias like Facebook and Twitter as we will be launching Cassandra accounts on these platforms as well.
Thank You Kindly,
Christopher Mark Penner
