CANNED LION HUNTING IS A FAILURE OF POLICY. HELP US TO LOBBY FOR CHANGE.
Let's get the status of lions raised in USA to ENDANGERED. and get Europe to ban the import of lion trophies.
LET'S CUT OFF THE FLOW OF DOLLARS AND CLOSE THIS EVIL INDUSTRY DOWN IN SOUTH AFRICA.
WATCH ANOUSCHKA IN THE VIDEO ABOVE, PERFORMING HER HAUNTING SONG 'DYING TO BE FREE.' Thanks Anouschka for your support.
There are fewer than 4000 lions left in the ’wild’ in South Africa, but more than 8,000 in captivity, being bred for the bullet or the arrow. Lion farming is a real threat to wild lion prides, for many reasons. The potential for escaped or illegally released tame lions to infect wild prides with diseases like feline AIDS; the on-going capture of wild lions to introduce fresh blood into captive breeding; the growth of a lion bone trade that will impact severely on wild lions from poaching; and the corruption of lion census data caused by the smuggling of trophy animals in to neighbouring countries to circumvent the Rowland Ward ban on captive-bred trophies.
This toxic and cruel industry needs to be closed down.
THE CAMPAIGN (CACH)
Formed by Chris Mercer and Bev Pervan for reasons related in their book Kalahari Dream, www.kalahari-dream.com CACH is an animal advocacy organisation. Few people understand the importance of animal advocacy work, preferring to support more visible initiatives such as anti-poaching measures and wildlife sanctuaries. But canned hunting only exists because of a failure of government policy, and then it is ferociously defended by vested interests. Like slavery, canned hunting can only be abolished by a sustained campaign to raise awareness. Then, it must persuade foreign governments to ban the import of lion/predator tophies.
Only that way can the supply of dollars be cut off, and the industry closed down.
All sources of income need to be challenged; the cub petting phenomenon, whereby lion farmers are able to externalise the costs of rearing their living targets; and the income from volunteers, who pay to work at lion farms in the naïve belief that they are assisting conservation and the release to the wild of those cubs.
