Last summer I took an expedition to Cambodia, having wanted to explore the far East for years, and discovered that that journey would leave me with something that goes beyond its beautiful landscapes. I met so many people, every one of them made a very strong impression on me, with their optimism, hope for a better future, through their hard work and efforts. I spent a long month travelling around the country taking photographs with my old film camera.
Thanks to your enthusiastic support we can help Oxfam carry out a concrete project (see next paragraphs). For a country with the majority of the population living on less than $2 a day, every little help can go a long way. Together we can make a difference!
I grew up in a small village near Florence, where you can still roam in the countryside watching old men cultivating the land. For me film photography is the best way to find the soul of a place, to explore it, to reflect it. Besides shooting and inhaling chemicals in the darkroom, I’m also an engineer and thanks to this I had the opportunity to go travelling in Cambodia.
All the photos were taken with my Canon T70 film camera, Canon FD 50mm standard lens, on IlFord HP5 Plus film.
Oxfam was among the first group of NGO’s to provide aid to Cambodia after the collapse of the Khmer Rouge in 1979. They work with partners on the promotion and protection of human rights, women’s economic empowerment, building community micro-finance institutions, responsible management of natural resources.
Your help will go to fund, through Oxfam, a project that’s been submitted and approved by the European Union. 42k Euros are needed to complete all the activities planned by 2014!
What we can achieve thanks to your contribution:
The founds will be managed by Oxfam, so projects may differ. If you can’t contribute doesn’t mean they can’t help! Get the word out and make some noise about the "CAMBODIA 2014: Photography makes the difference" Project , we will be grateful!
The idea was initially born thanks to Luca and Barbara, trusted friends and fellow travelers. We had decided to organize, in their small and beautiful new home, a charity cocktail with friends. Soon many people have asked us to participate, to do something concrete together. Many friends are joining and thanks to all of you and to the support of Oxfam, the project is coming to life.
Special Thanks to Elena, Barbara, Luca, Iacopo, Ilaria, Penny.. I'll update the list, I promise!
Together we can turn many small actions in a great result!
The exhibition will run in Florence, Italy, about December/January and will consist of both exhibition quality photographic prints and large format installations. An evening event is going to be organized, beside other shows in other cities. Stay tuned, forthcoming news are arriving!
As a sincere thank you for your pledges we're offering a variety of gifts. These include calendars, signed fine art prints and the fantastic opportunity to become our beloved partner.
There will also be the opportunity for all pledge givers to come along to the exhibition, soak up the atmosphere, have a glass of wine (or two!) and receive the our personal thanks for your contribution!
