WHO WE ARE:
Meet 2013’s graduating actors from California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California! We have spent the past three or four years in 16-hour days of classes and rehearsals, nausea-inducing work-outs, blurry eyed all-nighters, and record-setting coffee-binges, and now we are awfully excited to transition into professional performing arts circles and make an impact. CalArts actors are proud to distinguish ourselves in the industry with our training, imagination, boldness and work ethic: alumnis include Don Cheadle, Allison Brie, and Ed Harris, and are featured in major motion pictures and television shows. Many are leaders in ground-breaking theatre around the world. Even more important to mention, this particular gang of thespians are among the most thoughtful, supportive and generous artists around!
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP:
In March, the graduating class is required to travel to New York City as a company to partake in an industry showcase that allows us to interface with casting directors, agents, directors, producers and other industry professionals. This showcase is not only a required element of our final year, but also presents a unique experience and opportunity that for many past students has created significant post-graduation career prospects.
The cost of this trip to New York will far exceed what is within our student living-expenses. As well as performing in the showcase, it is essential to be able to remain in the city for at least several days following the showcase to meet with interested industry professionals. Each one of us hopes to spend at least one week in New York following the showcase in order to take full advantage of this trip. All this will all amount to a slightly sweat-inducing expenditure.
For this reason, each year, the graduating acting class is involved in a collective fundraising effort from the beginning of the year with the aim of supplementing each student’s showcase travel. This year, as the largest graduating class ever, we are facing a particular challenge in meeting the needs of each student. But not only have we committed to ourselves to raise the funds to make this trip to New York possible, we have committed to each other! No actor left behind! We’ve been performing free shows, selling-off our worldly belongings, selling serenades and pranks and otherwise making utter fools of ourselves...and the time has come where we need your help!
We humbly request your support. This showcase will be our first formal introduction to the industry and could likely result in our first vital invitations for representation. Your donation would be most helpful in navigating this travel expense and things like transportation, food, and lodging, as well as headshots and business cards. If the devotion and enthusiasm of this group is any indication of how we will contribute to the performing arts, your donation will be both well-appreciated and worthily-spent.
We greatly appreciate your support and want to give back for every donation received. If you look at the column to the right of this screen you can see the reward that follows each donation increment. Thank you from the bottom of our art hearts!
