Butterfly Town USA Takes a stand for Monarchs and Bees by distributing thousands of artist created Save Our Pollinators Action kits. These Kits include a postcard addressed to the Committee on Agriculture which is currently considering HR 2692, " The Save America's Pollinators Act 2013 and a Native Pollinator Seed Mix specific to the Central Coast of California.
Hi. My name is Michelle Magdalena Maddox and I am a photographer and activist who lives in Pacific Grove California, known as Butterfly Town USA. Our Monarch Sanctuary hosts thousands of Monarchs when they migrate here from as far as 2,000 miles away. Monarchs are beautiful and intrepid but they are also in trouble, losing the habitat that sustains them and being poisoned by unregulated pesticides at alarming rates.
I’m working with poet and designer Meredith Stricker to create and distribute thousands of Save Our Pollinators Action kits. It is up to all of us to join together and help protect Monarchs along with other threatened pollinators!
THE MAGNITUDE OF THIS PROJECT + WHERE THE FUNDING IS GOING
Our goal is to take immediate and practical action to protect butterflies and bees, which in turn sustain our food sources, gardens and life on earth.
Your contribution will help us:
1. Create and distribute thousands of simple, effective and colorful artist-designed postcard kits with information, Action and seeds to protect and sustain butterflies and bees:
Each kit comes with easy-to-understand and comprehensive information about what you can do right now to sustain pollinators; a packet of seed mix specially formulated for the pollinators in regions specific to their migratory path and a take-action postcard to send Congress to support HR 2692, “The Save Our American Pollinators Act of 2013” which will place a moratorium on the harmful neonic pesticides already banned in the EU but still widely used in the US, killing butterflies and bees at unprecedented levels.
2. Have an immediate public, local impact with a booth at the Pacific Grove “Good Old Days Festival” where you will help sponsor activities with children, inform the public at large and distribute hundreds of our SAVE OUR POLLINATORS ACTION KITS right in Butterfly Town, USA reaching out to local residents and the many travelers who visit our region.
3. Work with Central Valley Farmers and other bio-regions to help expand habitat that sustains and protects the bees and butterflies crucial to orchards and farm-fresh foods. Your contribution will help us reach thousands of people with direct action to help pollinators in our gardens and habitats while reaching out to farmers, growers to help them with what they need to protect pollinators and joining all of us in taking direct political action to make democracy work to sustain bees and pollinators.
WHAT YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS WILL PAY FOR
You will help us pay for a comprehensive and effective campaign to help pollinators across the country. Your donations will cover printing costs for 1000s of color post-card kits with beautiful artwork and clear information; 1000s of seed kits in envelopes we’ll pack by hand; a campaign to save pollinators with postcards targeted for Congress; a campaign launch and booth in Butterfly Town USA for the "Good Old Days Festival" April 5 and 6; coordinating with farmers and growers working together to sustain bee and butterfly habitat as well as shipping costs.
Even if we are unable to meet our full funding goal, your contributions will still be effective in local outreach, printing and distributing Save Our Pollinators Kits and reaching out to farmers, just at a reduced level. Everything you donate will go directly toward this campaign. We are a local and artist-run group;
we create to take direct action without bureaucratic waste.
