Raising funds to build a bathroom for a family in El Porvenir, Honduras

In 2010 Caroline had the opportunity to go and live and work in El Porvenir, Honduras with the organisation Honduras Child Alliance. Hugely impressed by their fantastic example of what a non-for-profit organisation should be; run entirely through peoples voluntary time, love and donations, we decided to do something to help from over here...

The HCA is a diverse and collaborative, volunteer-based group, collectively working to make life better for impoverished children in Honduras. United by a love of children and the desire to improve their opportunities, they coordinate volunteer-powered projects to support education, health & hygiene, families and community.

Amongst one of the many projects they organise is 'Building Baños' (Bathrooms!) In El Porvenir, many families have no form of a bathroom and the ones that do have crumbling, unsanitary bathrooms that become hot spots for diseases and sickness. The children who live in these poverty stricken situations are the most affected by the environmental contamination that comes with the lack of proper sanitation and facilities. They are constantly at risk for stomach and intestinal diseases, parasites, malnutrition, and many skin diseases that are a result of bathing themselves in contaminated water sources. The El Porvenir Construction Project, would like to build sustainable bathroom structures that require little maintenance so that they will benefit the families for a longer period of time.

So, whilst they continue to do a fantastic sustainable work on the ground we thought we'd get together and give them a bit of support from over here...by providing them with the funding to build a bathroom

...but we need your help to do this.

The organisation does not have administrative costs or paid employees, therefore all donations go directly towards the purchase of materials. Every $25 dollars buys the truckload of sand required to make concrete for a floor, every $8 dollars buys a bag of cement mix, every 25 cents buys the PVC fittings to run water lines, and every 5 cents buys a bag of water for the hardworking Honduran children who always find a way to pick up a shovel or swing one of our hammers in order to help out in any way that they can.

We want to smash this target! $900 will buy one bathroom but we reckon, with your support, we can easily supply the organisation with enough money to buy more than just one bathroom.

So because this the organisation is based in the western hemisphere our campaign is in dollars so whatever you'd like to give in pounds, you've got to times that by like 50 or something to give the amount you'd actually like to donate in dollars... ok, actually it is something like this;

£5 = $8

£10 = $16

£20 = $32

£50 = $80

Thank you very much for your kind donation.

Please take time to view the video so you can see what all your money is going towards.
