We are a team of students at ESEN in Santa Tecla, El Salvador, working together with the community from Ayutica, Santa Ana, we want to make their public school a better place for their children.
In the United States, a kid’s average studies 12.4 years. In El Salvador, it’s 7.5 – nearly five years less of study. This, together with the fact that only 40% of girls and 47% of boys reach high school makes for a really harsh outlook. Over a third of Salvadorans live in poverty, and that’s what we want to change. Our responsibility is to helping these kids by offering them a permanent classroom where they can attend their classes.
The school is currently using the Community House as an impromptu classroom, but it’s in really poor condition and, besides, when the House needs to be used for other activities, they have no place to go. Our goal is to build a purposeful classroom space for use by the children of the community.
The community can’t afford to cover all expenses for the project. They’ve all volunteered to help us with the construction work, but we still need the funds to pay for the materials – that’s why we’re asking for your help! Only with your funding will the kids of Ayutica have a proper place to study; all funds collected will go towards building materials (cinder, blocks, steel frame, etc.) and classroom equipment (whiteboard, desks, etc.).
We need all help you can afford to give – every little bit counts!
Now, we know that you’ll be more motivated if we have something to offer besides our sincere gratitude, so we’ve prepared some unique perks for our utmost generous contributors.
As mentioned, our biggest expense by far is building materials. We already have the design for the classroom, now we’re just working on raising the money to buy all the stuff we need to get the classroom up as soon as possible, since the next school year is about to begin (in El Salvador, it starts in January).
We want you to feel like you are a crucial part of the project, and a force of goodwill towards the community. By becoming a backer, you are helping build a better future for all the kids of this community; we want you to know that by supporting the project, you are helping to make the world a better place.
If you can’t contribute directly but still want to help, be sure to share this site with all your friends! We need as much people to see it as possible.
Again, thanks for your support!
