The Jewish Museum and Archives of BC badly needs a new website that will allow us to bring you world class online exhibits profiling the amazing stories of our community, and make our archival collection available to researchers and students everywhere.

Members of our community have achieved some impressive accomplishments over the past 150 years, working with the many other communities of BC to make our province truly great. Here at the JMABC, it is our responsibility to ensure that these stories are remembered for generations.

Museums around the world are doing amazing things to bring their collections to life through innovative online exhibits. We want to bring you the same quality of exhibits filled with vitality.

The new Jewish Museum website will be your source for all information about the history of Jewish life in BC. If you want to learn about how your family came to BC, this site will be the place to look. If you want to arrange a walking tour of old Jewish Vancouver for visiting out-of-town friends and family, this site will have all the information necessary. If you want to research the growth of Oakridge or the history of your synagogue, our online exhibits will have everything you need to get started.

We’re working hard to make sure this site fills the needs of our community and is easy to use.

It’s a big project and we’re going to need your help to make it happen. We need to raise $18,000 through Indiegogo to supplement the grants and donations we’ve started to receive. We want to do it right – we want to build a strong website that will last for years to come.

We’ve got some great perks lined up to express our thanks for your support. These include:

·  Historic walking tours

·  Personalized archives tours

·  Complementary memberships

·  High-quality prints of some of the best photos in our collection

·  And much more!

** Tax Receipts will be issued for contributions of $36 or more. **

The new Jewish Museum website is an important part of our efforts to make our collection available as widely as possible and engage a new generation in our community’s history.

Teachers and students will benefit from better, more engaging and informative online exhibits made possible by the new capabilities of this website.

The Jewish and non-Jewish communities of BC will benefit from this project by sharing history with each other, fostering a better understanding of each other’s experiences and cultural identities.

Staff and volunteer time required to upload new archival content to the website will be dramatically reduced, allowing us to accomplish these nitty-gritty tasks far more efficiently and instead be able to focus our energies on developing innovative, informative and engaging online and physical exhibits and public learning opportunities.

Since 1970, the Jewish Museum and Archives of British Columbia has been the preeminent and authoritative body for the collection, preservation and sharing of Jewish life in BC. Through innovative exhibits and public programming, the JMABC builds bridges with the diverse communities of BC and heightens awareness of the rich history of Jews in BC.
