Help the Northlake Public Library get a 9-foot-tall Incredible Hulk statue, graphic novels and a creation station featuring:

  • iMac with a drawing pad
  • Editing software
  • Cintiq interactive pen display
  • 3D printer
  • Artograph Light Tracer Elite
Libraries are constantly changing and evolving beyond just a place to do school work and use the internet. Today’s libraries are celebrating creativity, entertainment and life long learning, and they are doing it with technology and popular materials including graphic novels. The problem is that many people still think of libraries in the old way. We want to smash that stuffy reputation with a 9 foot tall Incredible Hulk Statue

Why The Hulk? Just as Dr. Bruce Banner transforms into the Hulk, we want our library community members to make their own personal transformations through books, programs, and awesome new equipment. This larger-than-life literary character will become a giant green beacon of light to highlight our graphic novel collection, our creation station…not to mention the library’s sense of humor and whimsy. The project will show off the fun side of the library and get the community talking. The HULK will force patrons to look at the library in a whole new way.

Art Spiegelman, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Maus, once said that “comics are a gateway drug to literacy.” We want people of all ages to start reading these addictive and powerful books. Help us grow our collection to epic proportions.

We also want to promote digital literacy and provide patrons with a spot where they can create their own comics, art, movies and experiment with digital design and photo editing. We want to provide patrons with a glimpse into the future with cutting edge technology like 3D printers.

For the average household these resources are cost prohibitive, but with your help, we can provide them to an entire community!

We want everyone who helps this project to be able to take advantage of everything we get so be assured that if you come to the library even if you don't have a Northlake library card you will be able to use our new technology that this project provides.

Here is everything and a few ideas of what can be done with them:

The statue will attract new readers to the library as well as highlight the graphic novel collection.

With an IMAC patrons will be able to edit video, images and even podcast. With the drawing tablet they will also be able to draw their own comics.

With an iMac, patrons will be able to edit videos, images and even podcasts. With the drawing tablet, they will also be able to draw their own comics.

Cintiq

With the Cintiq, patrons will be able to use the same machine that many modern comic artists use to create comics!

3D Printer

With the 3D printer, patrons will be able to bring their designs to life. If they create a new character they can design and print a action figure of it. Of course it has many more uses such as making prototypes of new products.

Lightbox

With the Light Tracer Elite, our younger patrons will be able to practice drawing and tracing. Our older patrons who would like to create comics by hand will find this a useful tool to make final edits of their work.

Plus many more graphic novels for both kids and adults. You will be able to request them to be sent to your library if you aren't a patron of the Northlake Public Library District! Here is our tumblr list of some of the newest adult graphic novels you can browse through now.

If we do not raise the full amount, we will first use the funds to purchase the statue, then a mix of technology and graphic novels.

If we don't raise enough to purchase the statue, we will use the funds to purchase new graphic novels. This is just the back-up plan as we fully intend to reach our goal to get everything.
