For the first time ever, a metabolism tracker that syncs with your smartphone. Brought to you by a team of dedicated researchers and engineers, Breezing combines innovative design with proven science.
Your metabolism determines what your body needs just to sustain life. For most people, 70-80% of the calories you burn comes from metabolism - not exercise.
Everyone’s metabolism is different. And your metabolism can change over time. Age, weight, body composition, and hormones are intricately connected to metabolism. That's why tracking your metabolism is so important.
Breezing tells you:
Your Metabolism REEding (Resting Energy Expenditure): The number of calories your metabolism burns everyday
Your Body's Energy Source: Whether you're burning carbohydrates, fats, or a mix of both
Your Total Energy Expenditure: The total number of calories you burn (metabolism + activity level) depending on how active you are.
Your Metabolic History: Your metabolism over time, so you can see changes easily.
Your Weight History: Your weight progress, showing you how it corresponds with your metabolism.
(Why does the app look different in the video? Since the filming of the video, we've improved our app's user interface to make it even easier to use.)
Based on your unique metabolic profile and individual goals, Breezing gives you diet and exercise advice customized to your needs.
Connecting + Sharing.
The Breezing app lets you share results through e-mail, Facebook, and Twitter. You can tell your friends and family how you're doing, or keep your doctor, coach, or trainer updated on your progress.
Real, Accurate Science.
Breezing measures your metabolism using indirect calorimetry, the Gold Standard method preferred by the World Health Organization.
While traditional indirect calorimeters are large, bulky, and difficult-to-use, Breezing streamlines indirect calorimetry – so it’s simple, mobile, and effective.
All in the sensor.
Our sensor cartridges are pre-calibrated, ensuring optimal performance. For the utmost accuracy, each cartridge is designed for one REEding and can be disposed after use.
Anywhere you go, anywhere you want. Breezing syncs to your smartphone or tablet wirelessly, via Bluetooth.
1) Insert sensor cartridge. 2) Breathe. 3) That's it.
Where We Are
Our goal is to make Breezing available for everyone. And to do that, we need your help. We’re looking for funds to bring Breezing into mass production and to further develop the app for all mobile platforms.
2. Breezing is Android-ready, and the next step for us is the iPhone/iPad. Whether it's Android or iOS, we want to make sure that Breezing works seamlessly on all devices.

Your Voice Counts: Referral Contest
Our Indiegogo campaign is more than a fundraising effort - it's the chance for us to hear your thoughts, your comments, your suggestions about Breezing. And on Indiegogo, the world's largest open source crowdfunding platform, we hope to hear from as many voices as possible.
You can support us by joining our efforts to spread the message. Simply share Breezing's Indiegogo campaign with anyone you think would be interested. At the end of the campaign, the person who has given us the most referrals will receive the VIP perk: a one-on-one Breezing REEding and consultation with the Breezing founders, including a Breezing device and lifetime support.
It's the least we can do.
Who We Are: Heart+Brains Behind Breezing
A passionate team of researchers, scientists, and engineers, Breezing is a spin-off company of Arizona State University.
NJ Tao, Ph.D., President/Co-founder. NJ is a Professor of Electrical Engineering & Chemistry at Arizona State University (ASU), as well as Director of the Center for Bioelectronics and Biosensors at ASU Biodesign Institute. He has over 15 years of experience working with chemical sensors and is a key inventor of Breezing’s core technology.
In his spare time, NJ likes to hike, sketch, and sing karaoke. His favorite movie is Forrest Gump.
Erica Forzani, Ph.D., Co-founder/VP of Product Development. Erica is an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering, Deputy Director of the Center for Bioelectronics and Biosensors at ASU Biodesign Institute, and the inventor of Breezing's sensing technology. Her current research interests lie in the realm of health applications, and environmental health and safety.
Erica loves bread, pastries, and dulce de leche. She has the special ability to fall asleep anywhere.
Francis Tsow, Ph.D., VP for R&D and Engineering. Francis is an Assistant Professor at ASU's Biodesign Institute and has developed new detection methods to preserve the lifetime of sensors. He has extensive experience in design and building miniaturized thermal and acoustic sensors.
Francis enjoys Italian opera and has a fondness for chocolate - especially M&Ms.
Xiaojun Xian, Ph.D., VP of Production. Xiaojun has seven years of experience in chemical sensors, and holds 2 patents related to the chemical modification of sensor materials. His expertise serves as the link between Breezing's R&D team and the manufacturing partner for successful production.
Xiaojun Xian was born in Xi'an. He is the proud father of a bouncing baby boy, who was born in Arizona.
So many people have helped make this campaign possible. A shout-out to all our superstars: Anna Miller and her production crew (Ben and Eric), Adam Mann, Barbara Ainsworth, Chris MacGriff, David Jackemeyer, and Jessica Nichols.
Thank you so much!
How much do the sensor cartridges cost?
Each sensor cartridge is $3-5, depending on the quantity ordered. This price reflects the considerable amount of research and labor that goes into every cartridge. To maintain the highest standards of quality, our sensor cartridges undergo rigorous inspection and testing, and are produced here, in the United States.
How does Breezing compare to current indirect calorimetry tests?
Each additional Breezing measurement is $3-5 (cost of sensor cartridge), while current indirect calorimetry tests are upwards of $40, performed at a facility or clinic.
How frequently should I use Breezing?
Metabolism is closely linked to many factors, such as your intrinsic physiology, your age, and your lifestyle (e.g., diet and exercise). Monitoring metabolism has multiple benefits, but how frequently you should measure metabolism depends on your goal.
If you are a healthy individual that just wants to maintain and monitor your health, once a week may be sufficient.
If you want to adopt a new exercise or metabolism-boosting routine, 4-5 measurements throughout the day may be useful to determine the effects of that routine.
If you were diagnosed with a thyroid disorder and need to start treatment, your metabolism will change with your hormone levels and thyroid gland activity. You may want to consult with your doctors about the frequency of REEding measurements.
If you are a body builder, your metabolism increases with increases in muscle mass, and 1-2 measurements per week may help your training.
Can cartridges be re-used?
Each sensor cartridge is designed for one time use only.
Can my mouthpiece be re-used?
You can re-use your mouthpiece after cleaning.
How long does each REEding measurement take?
Each REEding measurement typically takes between 1 - 1.5 minutes.
Everything you ever wanted to know - and more.
