This is my best friend Bruce and me. Bruce is a 18 month old pit bull that I have had since he was 6 weeks old.He is my absolute best friend in the world and as other dog owners could confess: I'm not sure how I got by without him.
Over the course of the last few months Bruce tore his left ACL and meniscus. He soldiered through two separate and expensive diagnoses to confirm the tear, and was a gentleman the entire time. Unfortunately, not one week later, Bruce started to favor his non-injured leg. I scheduled another trip to the vet which revealed an additional ACL tear. Initially, rehabilitation seemed to be the best way to heal one leg, and the vet and I felt that it would have been sufficient enough to address his injury. However, with the second tear the vet recommended surgery on both hind legs.
This procedure costs approximately $3500-4000 per leg. This doesn’t include the additional funding that will be needed for him to complete his post surgery rehabilitation or medication. Sadly, I do not have pet insurance to cover any of these injuries. ACL injuries are not covered by most pet insurance plans and many do not cover pre-existing conditions. To say the very least, the situation for me is heartbreaking on a daily basis.
You can see this is a very difficult and emotional situation to be in, every day is harder than the last for both Bruce and I.
I understand that money is an issue for a many of us in 2014, and I've never been one to ask for any financial help, but I’m running out of options, and there is only so long that I can stand to watch my best friend suffer. I consider Bruce my child, he is as much part of my family as anyone ever has been, and I’ve made it my focus to improve his situation as soon as I can, the best I can.
Bruce is named after one of my favorite musicians, Bruce Springsteen. With a little help, I’ve designed a t-shirt that is a play on one of the best albums of all time, Born To Run. I feel that this design humorously plays a double role considering the injuries that Bruce has suffered. I humbly ask you to assist us in our time of need. I set a goal of $10,000 that would cover Bruce's surgeries, medication, and rehabilitation. If I surpass my goal, every additional dollar beyond the cost of Bruce’s needs will be donated in Bruce’s name to PAWS to help other animals in need.
All our love,
Bruce and Justin
