I seek your assistance to make my dream a reality. The total costs for this endeavor will be between $110,000 and $140,000. I have set my fundraising goal at $55,000 to cover basic renovations. Every dollar raised from the community is a dollar I won't have to borrow from the bank.
“Wherever I go, bookstores are still the closest thing to a town square.”
― Gloria Steinem, My Life on the Road
The $55,000 raised will go to remodel the new shop, and cover tenant improvements:
The main goal of this campaign is to raise the funds needed for tenant improvements and reduce the amount of Small Business Administration (SBA) loan that will have to be taken to get the shop started. These improvements are the bare minimum needed to open the doors.
Thank you so much for your support! You've exceeded my wildest dreams!
We've reached our campaign goal and have set our sights higher! All donations above and beyond the $55,000 will go to additional exciting improvements!
New rewards are available, so please share with your friends and family to help us as we near the end of this campaign!

If you're interested in more than one reward level that's fantastic! You'll select your first level, check out, and enter your payment info. Then make a new contribution for your second perk. If you're super motivated and digging even more of our perks, repeat the process, as necessary.

A note about our logo. Our logo is a work in progress, and so limited edition items will be printed using our working logo. Owning one of these items will show your commitment to Books on B and to the Hayward community!
Whenever possible, the rewards will be made in the USA. As you all know, supporting independent bookstores increases locals jobs in our community - so I feel really strongly about supporting jobs nationwide. Thank you for your support!
Now, more than ever, the world needs bookstores.
This community deserves to continue the tradition of a gathering place where people are comfortable to express themselves freely, quench their curiosity, and discover their truest self.
I've become my best self by serving this community's former bookstore, and it'd be my greatest pleasure and honor to continue for the rest of my days.
“The Bookshop has a thousand books,
All colors, hues, and tinges,
And every cover is a door
That turns on magic hinges.”
― Nancy Byrd Turner
As with any small business there are inherent risks. But I believe in our community and in the power of books. Here's why, with your help, I think we'll succeed:
Starting any new business has its challenges. My lease is secure, and I am very grateful to longtime Hayward resident and building owner Jerry Egusa. I have identified a general contractor, and am working with the city on building permits and a city business license. I am also working with the local SBA on shaping my plan and identifying additional sources of funding.
I have approached the the City for financial support, and hope for funds for inventory, equipment and other start up costs. The community support through this Indiegogo campaign will help reduce the amount of my loans with the SBA for start up costs and operations reserve.
I am doing my best to open by Spring 2017. I look forward to welcoming you into the new bookshop as soon as I can!
If you're a book lover but can't afford to help out by donating consider sharing this campaign with your friends, family, and especially with other book lovers.
All supporters of this campaign are able to "win" a Books on B mug by referring their friends and family to the campaign. Refer 20 people who contribute to the campaign and you'll receive a Books on B mug!
For you to count as a referrer, you must promote your campaign with Indiegogo’s share tools while logged into your Indiegogo account. This is important because otherwise, your unique ID won’t be attached to any resulting contributions or visits.
All referrals that come between the dates this campaign is launched to when it ends will be tallied, and winners of the referral contest will be notified in the coming weeks.
Thank you so much for your support!
