BOMBING follows the story of two roommates, JENNY ZIGRINO and LANGSTON KERMAN, who have moved to Brooklyn to pursue their dreams of becoming successful stand up comedians. However, unlike LOUIE, which follows a prosperous comedian whose days of anonymity are long behind him, this web series gets down to the core of what it is to be starting in the business. Open mics with 40 comedians, all vying for two minutes of stage time, crowd work gone awry, strange bookings, abandoned bars, embarrassment and impending failure. But for all the sacrifices these two make, nothing stops them from chasing their desire for the stage. Breakups, fistfights, one-night stands, break-dancers, Hasidic Jews, trash tornados, and the politics of comedy can't and wont stop these two from making the world, or at least other comics, laugh. This show gives the audience an inside look into the unglamorous world of stand up comedy, and the true struggles of artistry in its conception.
Bombing // Episode 2 - Crowd Work
Two episodes of the series have been filmed, and eight more have been written and prepped for completion; however, because of the high cost of equipment, locations, staff and actors we need the support of anyone and everyone to raise these funds. This is not a web series that is being shot with someone's smartphone in the park. We aim to put together a series that is as visually stunning as it is hilarious. As a result, we will be using the highest quality equipment for lighting, sound, editing and everything in-between. The guys at Dangerworks have worked very hard to map out the true cost of effectively shooting a web series of this quality. Each of the remaining episodes will cost roughly $3,000, and we need to begin covering the cost of the episodes we have already filmed (hence, 10 episodes, $30,000).
BOMBING is a series that really shows the development of its characters as both people and comedians over time, so it is very important that no episodes be removed from the series. So much of the narrative is about the personal growth and destruction of the characters, and we need the full ten episodes to really explore these transformations.
Although the narrative of BOMBING is specific to the world of comedy, we believe the overarching themes of the show are relatable for almost any audience. The endless desire for something that seems completely out of reach is a feeling we have all faced in our lives, and that is why we believe this show will resonate so well with everyone who sees it. Our goal is not to get rich from this campaign. In fact, we will make almost no gain from the initial production of the show. Instead, we want this series to be something that eventually blossoms into a longer/larger production for either the web or television, and so we are investing as much time and money as possible in order to build both investors and also supporters of the show.
We are fully aware that $30,000 is a lot of money, and it is NOT something that we take lightly. We need as much help from this world of webs in order to make that money possible. If all you have is $1, but you are willing to post the link on Facebook or Twitter or Tumblr or even Friendster, that would mean the world to us. The more this campaign is spread, the more realistic our goal, and ultimately the completed series becomes.
