Dutch/Iranian filmmaker Kaweh Modiri achieved critical acclaim with his first short My Burglar and I, in which he made the man who broke into his home the unwilling subject of the film. He is now set to push the boundaries of genre by mixing documentary and fiction with his debut feature Bodkin Ras.
Bodkin is a fugitive on the run, looking to start over in Forres. He came to this remote corner of Europe to hide and lay low. This turns out to be impossible in a little town where rumours spread faster than the plague. People watch him vigilantly, but Bodkin manages to earn the trust of the community and finds a job as a park employee. Just when he thinks he can start building a lasting relationship with his new environment, disaster strikes. 18 year old Lily mysteriously disappears, and who is there to blame but the mysterious new arrival?

Hot Film-making Talent
Bodkin Ras is produced by Raymond van de Kaaij of Revolver Amsterdam and
co-produced by Belgian company Inti Films and Blue Iris Films. The film is supported by Dutch
Filmfund, Flemish Audiovisual Fund, Mondriaan Fund/BKVB and Voordekunst.
Kaweh Modiri’s short film My Burglar and I had its worldwide première at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2011 and was awarded the René Coelho Award from the Dutch Institute for Media Art. It is the true story of a filmmaker who follows his burglar, and makes him the unwilling subject of his film. Following this, Kaweh’s first novel was published, which was longlisted for the Academica Literature Award. He wrote the short story of Bodkin Ras after a visit to the small town of Forres, in the North of Scotland, which became the inspiration for his debut feature film of the same name.
What We Need...
The film was shot in the summer of 2013, with a crew spanning six nations dedicated to the project. The crew camped out for two months in Forres while shooting took place. Kaweh has been working on this film for three years - he and the team now need your support to complete the film.
We need £10,000 in order to cover the costs of finishing the film. These costs are vital to the film, and include:
We need 8 weeks of access to an edit suite and an editor. With the footage complete, this is the final and perhaps the most important step in the process.
In order to do justice to the location and cinematography, we need to complete the film with a fine grade. This will give the film a slick, professional quality and bring out the colours and textures of the location and characters.
Due to the mysterious and thrilling nature of the film, the soundtrack will play a huge part in the feel, tone and general atmosphere. We want to be able to provide a soundtrack that does the film justice. Kaweh has a musician whom he admires and with your help we will be able to work with him.
These finishing touches could make or break the film and could influence our chances of being accepted into festivals and cinemas. We need your help to achieve these vital elements.
