Baby, a burlesque dancer, joins a traveling circus hoping to unlock secrets from her past. While snooping around the train for answers she attracts attention from the other passengers, some of whom could prove dangerous. Information also comes with a caveat: The more Baby finds out about the past, the more her future is affected. Is it worth the risks to know the truth?
The Filmmakers Behind the Big Tent:
We are student filmmakers in our last semester at the University of Texas. This film is our undergraduate thesis film, and the biggest project any of us have attempted to conquer. Writer/Director Allie Lane started collaborating with Yamel Thompson with a circus idea back in early December of 2012. We now have a fully developed script, with performers, extras, studio space, and a vintage train to boot.
We have built a solid production team with Samantha Kline as our producer, Cameron Jones as our Director of Photography, Carmen Hilbert as our Gaffer, Heidi Diederich as our Production Designer, and Doug Helsel as our Musical Scorist.
Our cast includes:
Katie Folger as Baby
Jacquelyn Lies as Betty
Westen Borghesi as the Ringmaster
Why We Carnies Need Your Help:
As a group of student filmmakers, freelancers, and independent filmmakers, we don’t have as many resources as we would like to make a big budget short film. We do, however, have passion and creativity. For some of us, this is our first entry into the film world, where we hope to start off with a bang. We not only hope to make something brilliant enough to entertain our friends and families, but also strive to be accepted into various film festivals and reach out to a larger public audience. We want to show off what we can do, and push our strengths in the process.
The fundraising we receive will primarily go into our production design. We are building from scratch a Big Tent, a smaller stage tent, two train corridors, a vintage dressing room, and the Ringmaster’s personal cab car. All of which will require tremendous attention to detail, mastermind crafting in art direction, and of course, money.
