"Ashes" is a short film about two brothers searching a post-apocalyptic wasteland for antibiotics to save their sister who's dying from tuberculosis.
We are currently in post-production.
Our initial Campaign was successful and we are now in need of some post-production funds to finish up!
Ashes will be screening at:
Palm Springs International Shorts Fest
Here's our promotional video from our original fundraising campaign:
Director: Steven Roderick Jurich
Steven Roderick Jurich ("Steve" as he prefers) was born in Scottsdale, Arizona on Mother's Day. He grew up playing competitive sports, specifically basketball, always having the wildest of imaginations. Strangely, it wasn't until his junior year of college, while playing division 1 basketball, that he acted on his secret filmmaking desires. Much to his family's surprise, he switched his major to Film Production while attending California State University: Fullerton.
Being a competitive athlete, his work ethic drove him to learn everything he possibly could about filmmaking with intense passion during his time there. He attended a Digital Cinematography workshop with Amy Vincent and Robert Primes, where he met Cinematographer Rhys Waite, and took away a sense of security in knowing that film production was what he wanted to do. His passion for acting roots back to his childhood when he would constantly drift off and live in his imagination.
He's a team player and loves collaborating with equally motivated and hard working people. He lives for the chance to explore character and learn about people, humanity, and any extremely interesting (equally unimportant) fact. He sees story and potential in everything and everyone, finding even the most minute details to be interesting. Always searching for the next unique story to tell, Steve looks forward to a continued filmmaking career and the opportunity to bring new stories to life.
Cinematographer: Rhys Waite
Rhys Waite (first name pronounced as the verb "Rise") is an experienced, dedicated, and ambitious cinematographer. Diligent, driven, and creative, Rhys has recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Cal State LA's film school, as well as graduated with high honors from Los Angeles Community College Cinematic Arts, and proudly studied under ASC cinematographers Aimee Vincent & Robert Primes at the 2012 CSU-Summer Arts program in Monterey Bay.
Rhys had the privilege of working with writer/director Steve Jurich on numerous previous projects, including the shorts "All that Remains" and "Greed". Extremely excited about "Ashes", Rhys is actively involved in the intensive pre-production, and eagerly awaiting production to begin on this inspired short film at the end of February.
Producer: Josh Kotoff
Josh Kotoff is an ambitious filmmaker and Producer who is interested in helping filmmakers adapt to the online audience, with the goal of speaking at VidCon about this subject. With years of marketing and SEO background, he develops YouTube Strategy and works with contacts to help web series get sold to online networks and help growing YouTube channels expand.
With millions of views under his belt, he can't wait to start his own series and is actively working on it. From hosting independent film meetings and seminars, to speaking at schools about videos on the online world, Josh is always looking to teach what he knows. He is currently at Cal State Fullerton and double majoring in Business Administration and Finance.
Producer: RJ Hall
Through industry knowledge gained from professional training and hands-on experience over time, RJ Hall has provided clients with a multitude of digital video services, each with a measure of craftsmanship and detail that has become his trademark. The abilities of RJ Hall include filming and editing of numerous projects for private individuals and business alike, and have encompassed a wide variety of videography work, such as wedding videography, event videography, instructional videos, inspirationally-based videos, and training and documentation videos for industry trades.
Additionally, RJ has experience in broadcast filming, video capture editing, and related event videography services and production. His post-production expertise includes computer graphic 3D modeling and visual effects design using film industry standard software such as AutoDesk Maya, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe-Production Premium CS5.5 Editing Software Suite.
Our original budget of $6,000 is stretched far beyond its breaking point. In order for the film to screen at Palm Springs International Shorts Fest, LA Shorts, and beyond we need to do a few more things to complete "Ashes"
1. We need to hire a Colorist. This will cost us at least $1,000. Color Grading is what separates high quality imaging from low quality imaging. We want "Ashes" to be at it's full glory when it is displayed on the big screen.
2. We need to hire a Visual Effects Artist (VFX). There are some minor visual effects in Ashes that need to be done by an experienced artist so they are seamless.
3. We need to hire musicians to record the music for the film. Ed Allmond, our composer, is working diligently to create the music for "Ashes". Once complete, it will need to be recorded for highest possible quality.
Our minimum we need to complete "Ashes" is $2,000. We would like to have a bit more wiggle room, but we need this at bare minimum.
"Ashes" is only the beginning. Every person involved in this production is passionate, hard-working, and talented. These are people who possess the potential to do great things in the film and television industry. A little boost here to help jump-start their careers could be all they need to get moving in the right direction.
There are more ways to contribute than just by donating. You can help us out by sharing this campagin (make sure to use the Indiegogo share tools) and telling your friends about "Ashes". Be sure to link back to our campaign.
