HELP GET OUR REGGAE GIRLZ
TO THE 2015 WOMEN'S WORLD CUP
Jamaica's national women's football team, the Reggae Girlz, are ranked 4th in their region but they have NO funding from the government to train or compete and WE NEED TO HELP THEM! This is not just a Jamaican issue, this is an issue for everyone who believes in the power that sport has on women.
JULY 15TH UPDATE: WE HAVE RAISED CLOSE TO 45% OF OUR GOAL AND STILL NEED TO HELP THE REGGAE GIRLZ GET TO THE NEXT ROUND.
Just a few weeks ago the Reggae Girlz CRUSHED their opponents in the first round: St. Lucia 14-0 & the Dominican Republic 7-0. They are obviously good enough to play in the 2015 Women's World Cup in Canada. The only problem? The Jamaica Football Federation has always believed in its female football program but has struggled to secure sufficient funding. As a result, they're not able to institute the elements that other world-class female soccer programs consider to be fundamental like traveling to play in practice matches, proper training camp accommodations, or even covering their expenses to the next qualifying match. And that may ultimately prevent them from taking part in the World Cup in 2015. Fortunately, through the vision of Federation president Captain Horace Burrell, the Jamaica women's program has been given another opportunity to fulfill its potential.
Cedella Marley—the eldest daughter of Bob and Rita Marley—is trying to make sure that happens. She knows that she can't guarantee that Jamaica will be represented at the World Cup in 2015. But at the very least, she wants to give the Reggae Girlz every shot to succeed and even became the ambassador for the Jamaica women's football program. She's helping spread the word about the team— to raise money so that the team can pay for travel, training and other things that they'll need to continue to Strike Hard!
What We Need & What You GetIn order to get the Reggae Girlz to the next qualifying round in Trinidad, August 19th - 26th, we need to raise at least an additional $50,000.
This amount will go towards a few weeks of coaching, housing, proper nutrition and proper training to keep the Reggae Girlz at the top of their game.
Here's a list of our unique, Marley Brand perks just for the Indiegogo campaign:
This is not just an issue about funding a women's team in Jamaica, this is about EMPOWERING GIRLS and women through sport and into their life in general. Every girl deserves the right to empower themselves through sport no matter the financial implications.
Our first Crowfunding campaign raised close to $150,000 which helped us raise enough funds to pay for training, nutrition, housing, coaches and gear to get us to the first qualifying rounds in the Dominican Republic where the Reggae Girlz won their rounds 14-0 & 7-0 against St. Lucia and the Dominican Republic.
We now need to keep that high level of training up to get into further rounds and help us achieve our dream and so many girls' dreams of playing in the Women's World Cup 2015 in Canada!
Thank you to the Mister Mister Foundation for helping us to collect funds and make this campaign tax deductible in the United States.
