This year the Martin Family would like to adopt a family for Christmas that has been severly affected by Hurricane Sandy.
We are asking all of you to help us with this effort by donating what you can to help a family who has lost so much due to the storm. We know many of you have your favorite charities and are bombarded by many other charities this time of year. We are asking for any help you can give. Whether you can donate $1.00 or $100, I can assure you that your donation will help give a family some much needed cheer this holiday season.
We lived in New Jersey from 2003-2008 and Long Island from 2002-2003. We, coincindentally, were on the east coast during the storm and witnessed some of the damage and hardships.
It is hard for us to directly help since we have relocated to central Illinois. We found a FB page https://www.facebook.com/AdoptAFamilyHurricaneSandy that is connecting families who need help with those that can help. We will be directly connected to a family in need to help them. We feel this is the best gift we can give this year. We are spending a little less on store bought goodies, games and gadgets so that we can give a little more to those who have lost so much.
Our goal is to raise a minimum of $1000. This money will provide some holiday cheer to a family, as well as assisting them in buying clothing and other essentials.
There are still many families who do not have power and many others who have only just been allowed back to what is left of their homes. And still many more who have no home at all to go back to. Many of the storm victims are finding that most of their home and belongings are unsalvagable. People are in need of some very basic items: clothing, furniture, diapers, and even manual labor to help dig their homes out of debris and sand.
Please note that neither our family or https://www.facebook.com/AdoptAFamilyHurricaneSandy are registered nonprofit groups. We are raising funds not-for-profit that will be given directly to the families in need or will directly benefit a family. We are simply people reaching out to help other people. If you feel more comfortable donating to a registered nonprofit see the links below.
Also, please spread the word and forward this to your friends who may be able to help.
Thank you so much for considering our effort to adopt-a-family. We send the warmest wishes for a peaceful and safe holiday season.
Tim and Deb Martin

Also, consider donating blood. The Red Cross is in need of blood donations due to the many cancellations of blood drives because of Hurricane Sandy.
