A 22-year-old married woman Nisha suffered serious burn injuries today when a man threw acid at her face after she rejected his proposal in Vijay Nagar area in Ghaziabad.

She has now been shifted to Emergency Care Unit of Safadarjang Hospital in Delhi. She might be operated tomorrow. Her huband is a rickshaw puller who earns minimal daily wage. Nisha's two children- a one and a half-year-old son and another three and half-year-old daughter- are waiting with her husband and mother outside the burn ward in Safdarjung Hospital. Her family needs money for medicines, food and their stay in the city. They live in a slum in vijay nagar, Ghaziabadnd.

Accoding to NDTV, the accused, identified as Lakhan, had proposed to the victim two days back at her residence while her husband had gone outside for work. However, she rejected his proposal which angered the accused and he threatened the woman with dire consequences, Vijay Nagar Station House Officer Virender Yadav said.

The acid attack took place on Friday morning when the victim, a housemaid by profession, was going to Crossing Republic society for her work.

The victim was immediately rushed to hospital with 50 percent burn injuries, Yadav said.
