'A Tree Stands Alone' follows the day-to-day life of an old man, seemingly isolated, and living alone in an old house in the middle of the woods. Drinking glass after glass of whiskey and finding himself perform the same routine tasks every day, he has long past the realisation that his own life is devoid of value and meaning. At his lowest point a wondering stranger, a homeless young girl with no memory, wonders out of the woods and breaks into the old man's house for shelter. What follows is a blooming friendship between the two as they each try to deal with their own individual and nihilistic struggle for meaning in the strange and empty woods that surround them.
Why is this Film Important to Us?
Based on Albert Camus' theories of the absurd and existentialism, this film will explore the ideas of loneliness and nihilism, considering man's continuous, and perhaps pointless, search for meaning and value in existence. By recognising the strange nature of being, and whether or not suicide is an option, we hope to make something that is not only entertaining, but something special and of some significance. This film is about someone who has reached their limit in life, and is strangely at a crossroads considering his own death, and another who is fighting, and resisting, her own mortality. With your help we want to spread awareness and an understanding of suicide, and why some people might sadly, find ending their lives the only option.
This project is important to us as filmmakers because of the message behind the script. It is our hope to create something special that might help people in their own situations, and help others understand them.
Why We Need Your Help
This project is important to us, and we are digging deep into our own pockets to cover as much of the expenses as possible, but this unfortunately will still not be enough. Filmmaking is an extremely expensive process, so we are asking you guys out there to help us out! This extra help will not only be greatly appreciated, but will also see the film get the love that it deserves, and will provide us with the means to make this story as good as it can be!
We are currently in the pre-production stage of the film and although we are lucky enough to have access to the Red EPIC, we still need some help that we currently cannot cover ourselves.
The additional funds will go towards:
Extra equipment such as, a special Tilt-Shift lens for the Red Epic, and the right lights that we need to create the right look for the film.
Props and Costume hire.
Accommodation for cast and crew.
Post-production, so the film receives the right grade, sound mix, and finish that it deserves.
A DCP output of the film for festival screenings.
We really do appreciate any help, and for your generous donations, we have organised a bunch of great rewards and perks that you can read through on the right of this page! From copies of the shooting script, to DVDs of the film and posters, it’s all about giving back to you guys!
As self-funding filmmakers, and no strangers to having very little cash, we completely understand if you can't donate to our project. However, donating is not the only way you guys can help out! By spreading the word to your friends and family, or sharing our link (igg.me/at/atreestandsaloneshortfilm) on facebook, twitter, instagram etc, we would greatly appreciate the support, and be forever thankful for your contribution!
