Hello there lovely visitor!
Welcome to our Indiegogo campaign for...
That gave us an idea: What if, we could pair two people together, each from a different part of the world or the country, different backgrounds, different personalities, but with some sort of relationship between them, maybe they are two friends, or two roommates, a couple, any two people that share a bond, who would love the opportunity to introduce each other to a taste of their own home?
This would be a way to draw from our own experiences in LA, and also find out what others have also discovered. We want to create the pilot for a 13 episode season of a new travel and food-tasting show, that is based on authenticity and the relationship of the participants to each other. Each 21 minute episode includes some short background info on both participants, plus their introduction to their favorite eatery. Each of them takes the other one there, to sample what they each deem to be a “true taste of home”.
They proudly share stories from their past, and explain how and why they love it so much. Maybe their mother made it for them when they were sick as a child. Maybe it was a special treat their nana made for their birthday. Perhaps, it's the first dish they ever learned how to cook or it's one they always fail to replicate. It might be a dish reminding them of their first love, or it's their favorite comfort food after a heart-break. Whatever it is, the flavors strike a cord with them, making the dish unforgettable, and they can't hide their excitement for having found it so far away from home. The actual dish becomes the highlight of each visit, and the owners or the chef or the other patrons may also comment on it, should they wish to.
Each encounter concludes with the impression the dish makes on the “newbie” and what the whole sharing experience has added to their friendship/relationship. Fans of the show from around the world will also send in their own photos or videos that portray their favorite eatery and dish, which will be featured during different parts of each episode.
We already have an agreement with the “Living Asia” cable channel in the Philippines (also broadcasting in the US) that is willing to host the entire season, but all they can offer us is air-time. All costs befall to us, and this campaign is our main attempt at finding funding. Also it's a way for us to keep producing original creative material, hard as it is to find work in LA. If we manage to successfully create an entire season, we will be able to circulate it, perhaps even find supporters for mainstream broadcast here in the US.
What We Need & What You Get
After a breakdown of the concept and the logistics for shooting an entire season of this show, the total cost would be $50,000.
This would include the following:
Development & research, transportation, parking & gas, camera, lighting, and sound equipment rentals, insurance premiums, office supplies, meals, communication, travel, hard-drives, post-production equipment and licensing, marketing and merchandising, DVDs and thumb-drives among other things.
Production is all about collaboration, and we want to be able to pay the professionals who will work hard on our show. That includes all production and post-production professionals (i.e. Camera operators, sound recordists, production assistants, drivers, story-editors, graphic artists, editors, sound mixers, colorists/finishers, score composers, researchers, as well as all the different foodies that will be our guides during our visit to their various favorite eateries). We believe everyone who works should be compensated and not work for free. We all need to eat!
Economies of scale would certainly help us film all 13 episodes using $50,000, however, we decided to start with seeking funding for just the pilot episode, so we can prove what we are able to achieve:
The total cost of the pilot episode is $10,000 with the one time cost of graphics, music, titles, research, equipment rental, registration. That is the cost of a single pilot episode. That does not mean that 13 episodes would cost us $130,000, because we would be able to get package rental deals for equipment, discounts in post-production, the initial administrative costs, music, titles and research would be spread out and apply to all 13 episodes, utilizing all our resources more than once, bringing the cost down to $50,000.
Please check out our amazing perks, that you get for being a part of our group effort. They are listed on the right hand side of the page, and you can see how you too could benefit from our campaign.
Our target audience are FOODIES looking for authentic ethnic cuisines. NEWBIES to LA looking for places to eat. LOCALS that want to try something new. TRAVELERS for the inside scoop. IMMIGRANTS who are seeking a taste of their home. RESTAURANT OWNERS curious about the competition. AIRLINE PASSENGERS looking for travel hints. EVERYONE who feels food is an emotional experience to be shared!
We both have extensive experience with conceptualizing and mounting successful TV Shows that include food, travel, and lifestyle on prime-time TV and cable networks, around the world (Our past work experience includes working for German Production Company “Constantin Entertainment” and UK's “FremantleMedia”, where we directed and produced content for TV franchises).
We both have worked several years for free, and we are adamant that ANYONE and EVERYONE who will work on our show, will be properly compensated. We don't want our collaborators to do it “for the love of production”, “for a cool credit” and/or “for the priceless experience”. People's talents, skills and hard work are appreciated, and we want to support, train and help people get their credits, sure. However, we all have bills to pay, and we both feel our collaborators should also be financially rewarded for their time, hard work and multiple skills.
A dollar (or more, if you can spare it), a shout-out, a referral, a post, a tweet and a hash-tag, a Facebook status update, a heartfelt prayer, your positive vibes, are all ways you can contribute to our efforts and help us reach our goal! We want to create a show that people will enjoy making and watching and we would love it for you to be an active part of it.
