I am seeking help in translating five public domain German-language science fiction novels into English for the first time.

The story:

Several years ago, I was a major player of Final Fantasy XI, an online Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.

One day, while seeking information about something in the game, I found that there were novels based on the game. These novels were originally released in Japanese, but were translated to German and French, but not English.

I knew a little German and decided to order one of the German novels and proceeded to translate half of it into English (and fixed a few errors in the text as well). I tried to get Square-Enix to grant me permission to translate the whole series, but I was rejected (if anyone from SE is reading this, I'm still interested in doing that project!).

Anyway, I discovered I really liked translating German to English. I found a public domain collection of Japanese fairy tales that had been translated into German and translated that into English (so my English translation was a translation of a translation).

My favorite story from that collection can be found at my site, which is: http://intellectualeconomy.wordpress.com/2013/06/21/the-wily-policeman/

After that, I translated a Sci-Fi novel from 1909 entitled Der Rote Komet (The Red Comet), which is about a comet (which we all know would really be a meteor) crashing to Earth in the far future and it's up to Romulus Futurus to find a way to save the Earth from impending doom.

What you are paying for:

You are paying for me to be able to work on more translation projects. For this project, I aim to translate four more novels into English. Once the deadline for this campaign passes, everyone who donates at least $2 will receive a digital copy of The Red Comet in their choice of format: ePub, .Mobi, or PDF, all DRM free (if you need your copy to be in some other format, let me know and I will see what I can do).

Currently, I am working on a translation of Der Tunnel (The Tunnel) by Bernhard Kellermann, a novel from 1913. So for the backers who purchase one of the further tiers, this would be the second novel you will receive. I do not know when it, or any other novel, will be completely translated and delivered.

As for the other three novels, I have not discovered them yet. They will be Sci-Fi novels (unless I can find a public domain novel that's not Sci-Fi that is so completely awesome I have to translate it and share it with all of you backers). I plan on using some of the funds gained from this campaign to obtain the other books written by Robert Heymann (the guy who wrote The Red Comet), as well as seeking other books worthy of being translated.

If any backers out there has any suggestions, please, don't hesitate to let me know. The only stipulations on the books have to be:

1. They have to be German.

2. They have to be public domain (published before 1923).

3. Never before translated to English.

4. Easily findable (if you have the book in a digital format, let me know, or if you know where a hard copy can be found easily).

So there we have it. If there are any questions, let me know.

As I find new novels, I intend on making it known to the backers that I've found a new book and I will send the backers an email detailing a few details about the book.

Okay. For this one, it's going to have to be for people over eighteen. I translated a piece of German erotica from 1906, I don't "claim" it as being translated by me, I used a pen name. On this one, you get The Red Comet, the book of Japanese fairy tales, the four to-be-translated books, and this piece of erotica (which is actually altered a bit from its original form... you'll find out if you pick this tier).
