Sound is the medium in which a musician communicates to his audience. It is not only heard, but also felt, and it can significantly impact us emotionally. As a violinist, my sound, my musical voice, not only depends on my talent but also upon the instrument I use. My current violin, while it has taken me this far, has reached a sound threshold. It's incapability is holding me back from reaching a professional level of playing that will move and inspire those who listen to me. The high quality violins of the 17th and 18th centuries that professionals use cost millions of dollars, however, I've found a modern violinmaker whom makes great instruments at a fraction of the price.
I have worked really hard my entire life to get to where I am today. I am currently a student at Manhattan School of Music. While it is amazing that I am attending such a prestigious conservatory, it is incredibly expensive. I’ve had to work many hours each week, balancing both classes and my job, to continue paying for school but, in doing so, I am left without any money for a conservatory level instrument, which I desperately need. The instrument that I have now has taken me this far but the quality is insufficient for a professional career. It simply does not have the ability to resonate well enough to be heard in a concert hall.
I have always loved classical music. Whenever I was in the car, I would always ask my mom to turn on the radio to the classical music station. One day, when I was five years old, I heard an instrument making such a beautiful sound on the radio. I was so moved by it, but I didn't know what it was. When I found out it was a violin, I knew I wanted to become a violinist.
At Manhattan School of Music, I am studying with Isaac Malkin. I have learned so much working with him. I’m getting ready to embark on my professional career but in order to achieve that; I need a professional level violin.
In the 17th and 18th centuries, Italian violinmakers such as Stradivarius and Guarneri created the incredible violins that professionals use today. These violins are unmatched in their sound producing abilities and they cost millions of dollars. I searched the world of modern violinmakers and discovered Boris Sverdlik. He makes instruments at a fraction of the price of a Stradivarius.
I aspire to be a great violinist but to achieve that I need a great violin. I want to inspire people with music the same way the violinist on the radio inspired me. However, I need your help. Boris Sverdlik is making instruments that I believe can perform at the level of these million dollar violins. While the price is substantially lower than a Stradivarius, it is impossible for me to pay for it on my own.
What I Need & What You Get
I'm asking for your support to purchase a Sverdlik violin that costs $30,000. Any contribution would be extremely helpful. In return, I'm offering a selection of "perks" at different giving levels, so check it out.
