Orangutan Babies in Crisis
Often, we think there is no way to make a difference to a species we care so much about. But right now, in Ketapang Indonesia, International Animal Rescue is building a home for More than 100 orrphaned baby and adult that will have a chance at being released back into the wild.
The Orangutans in this area are among the most imperiled in Southeast Asia and need the most protecting. NOW is a real chance for you to make a difference to save the lives of these precious Orangutans. Unlike bigger charities, this money will ALL go towards building the orphaned Orangutans a new home in Ketapang.
Orangutans are among the most intelligent, beautiful, and caring creatures on Earth.
The native people say, in truth, that they can talk without words, and have souls as deep as our own.
Orangutans are exceptional mothers who spend 10-12 years raising their babies to thrive in their jungle homes. This is why it’s especially cruel when they are ripped from their mother’s loving arms when they are completely helpless, and dependent.
The International Animal Rescue emergency center takes in these helpless infants and other Orangutans and the staff works around the clock to save their lives.
When a baby Orangutan arrives at the Ketapang rescue center, it is often scared, traumatized, and frightened.
They lay shivering or listless...crying desperately for their mothers. It takes time to build trust and heal the wounds made by humans, but over time, it can be done.
Why? Because Orangutans have the most unusual power of forgiveness.
Another reason why they are often called “the peacekeepers of the forest.”
In recent years, studies have shown that they are far more intelligent than people have thought. They navigate through “mental maps” and have the capacity for long-term memory. More surprisingly, they are lightning learners who demonstrate mechanical genius by solving complex puzzles and building tools.
They mimic humans because Orangutans are US.
With the assistance of International Animal Rescue, we can help build a sanctuary for our forest cousins.
Why Orangutan families need your help:
Deforestation and murder have Orangutan mothers fighting for their lives and the lives of their children. When a mother is killed, the young ones are left behind to perish or sold to the black market, where they are often chained up or locked away in cages. The lucky ones make it to rescue centers like Ketapang, so that they can be rehabilitated and released back into the wild when they are ready.
The Story of Pina the Orangutan is one example
of how International Animal Rescue saves the
lives of Orangutans across Indonesia.
In a tragic series of events, IAR came to the rescue of baby Pina as villagers drowned her mother and beat her with sticks. Though International Animal Rescue couldn’t save the mother in time, baby Pina was rescued, and given a new home.
Stories like Peni's are sadly commonplace, as Orangutans are babies are hunted down and sold as pets, or killed all over Borneo.
The Aftermath: Peni Grows Up.
What We Need
I am looking to raise $3,000 to help build a sanctuary for orphan Orangutans at IAR’s Orangutan Rescue center in Ketapang.
Any money donated will go DIRECTLY towards building Orangutan Enclosures, their Food, and supplies necessary to build structures such as the training tower for Baby Orangutans.
IAR’s emergency center and sanctuary, [a 501 © (3) nonprofit organization] is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and sanctuary of baby (and adult) orangutans.
The Impact, Why Help IAR in Borneo?
In order to make a difference, we all need to act on a personal level. We cannot rely on governments, companies, or non-profits to protect our world’s most precious species if we are not willing to protect them ourselves. Your donation will directly save the lives of Orangutan families in Borneo.
On a deeper level, we are discovering each day who Orangutans are.
“Orangutans can stare straight into your soul, they study us the same time as we study them,” Dr. Willie Smitts
Curator Sam Chellaiya of the Singapore Zoo, believes Orangutans have souls.
He explains, “…after an orangutan dies all the Orangutans look in the same direction together as though they are seeing the spirit of the departed Orangutan.”
