A Is For Mission: to serve as an ally and advocate for organizations working to protect reproductive rights; to provide a unifying forum using social media to spotlight issues and facilitate activism.
A is For was an idea borne out of the frustration and fury of the War on Women that consumed the 2012 election season, and has since evolved into a potent, highly visible reproductive rights campaign. Now, A is For is committed to becoming a permanent, vigilant voice for women. We want to lay a solid foundation for a nonprofit that will ensure that future generations will be informed, engaged, and active--and not take their physical autonomy for granted. With actress and activist Martha Plimpton, “Daily Show” creator Lizz Winstead and others, A is For waged a daily awareness campaign just as relentless as the attacks on women’s physical autonomy. We redefined the iconic symbol of shame, the scarlet letter A, and manufactured “A” ribbons that our members wear proudly. Our organization grew in numbers, Facebook and Twitter followers, page views, ribbons--anything you can count. Founders and members are appearing on MSNBC and the red carpet wearing their ribbons. We are uniting and informing women and men from across the country with our “Nightly Need to Know” posts. We raise funds for the boots-on-the-ground work of organizations such as the Center for Reproductive Rights. We launched our own video campaign with Jane Lynch, Amy Poehler, Sarah Silverman, Frances Fisher, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Talib Kweli and others--known and unknown--wearing the scarlet A, standing up for reproductive rights, and telling the world what their A stands for.
And we're just getting started.

Together, through social media, the A is For community watched, tweeted, and wrote on walls as the women’s vote bore witness to what we’d been saying all along: women will not be shamed into silence. It would be easy to sit back with our newly elected representatives and entrust them with the business of protecting women’s bodies from state-imposed violations and humiliations. But we will not make that same mistake again. This is not the time to stop. This is the time to work even harder, because unfortunately, there needs to be an organization that serves as the nightwatchwoman for those legislators who are constantly chipping away at our fundamental physical rights.

Manufacturing our scarlet letter A ribbons
Maintaining and expanding our website
Developing a database of proposed laws that would affect women's reproductive rights
Maintaining and expanding our campaign infrastructure through stipends for writers and researchers
Covering labor costs associated with the shipping and handling of our A ribbons
Funding groups that share our common goal of protecting women's reproductive rights.
