THE KITCHEN IS WHERE THE HEART IS

They say home is where the heart is. At The Pig & The Lady, we like to say the kitchen is where the heart is. Growing up, our mother spent most of her time in the kitchen as she loved to cook. It has always been our dream to create a space where I can share the love of my mother's cooking along with the things I love. 

We started off as a fun idea where we'd pop up in a restaurant and serve an amazing seven-course dinner. And our idea turned into a reality where we set up shop at several farmer's markets, serving Vietnamese street-style food. As our popularity grew, we realized we needed a permanent place to call home and now we found one.


OUR NEW HOME

The restaurant will be open five days a week for lunch and dinner and will have a liquor license to sell beer, wine and spirits. The restaurant will take facets from the menus at the farmer's markets and Noodle Bar pop-ups (last held at pop-up space Taste and Honolulu Night Markets) by serving Vietnamese street food-style lunches for the fast-paced downtown crowd and imaginative tasting dinners and late night snack food for the nighttime crowd.

We have partnered with Pacific Gateway Center; a nonprofit committed to supporting and assisting immigrants, refugees and low-income residents, and will be taking over their current restaurant Lemongrass Cafe at 83 North King Street. As a part of their partnership, we will be employing participants in their work training program and using produce they are planning to grow on their farms.

We are also expanding our catering department to cater small meetings to big events, like office parties, business events, weddings and graduations. We will also have a small retail area for our fans who want to pick up a jar of kaya jam or a TP&TL t-shirt to give as gifts! 

In total, the company estimates it will require $151,500 in start-up costs plus a $25,000 line of credit to get through the first year of operations.


IMAGINE BEING OUTDOORS WHILE INSIDE

The site is 3,000 square-foot and beautiful. The building is a historical site, built in the 1950’s and is a red brick loft-like warehouse with high roof ceiling and a completely built-out kitchen ready to go. We want to create the inside to feel like you're dining outside, as if you were sitting at a table on the streets of Vietnam. We want the place to feel magical and fun.


ABOUT CHEF ANDREW

A native son of the islands, Andrew Le went to New York where he received an Associates Degree in Culinary Arts from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America. When he returned, he spent five years working at the upscale Chef Mavro’s restaurant in Moiliili, rising to sous chef. In 2011 he set out on his own, creating The Pig & The Lady as a pop-up restaurant working around Honolulu and selling at farmer’s markets. The food concept he has developed is modern, fresh take on traditional Vietnamese food, utilizing local product, delivering sandwiches, rice dishes and noodles that have garnered rave reviews. Mr. Le has been interviewed and reviewed in Honolulu Magazine twice and is called a “rising star” by national online magazine Star Chefs. The Pig & The Lady was currently noted as the number one restaurant in the Honolulu magazine's Top 100 Dishes
