A genre of film about death and the exploration of death inspired me to live and to dedicate my life and talents to promote the grim, macabre, and wickedly dark filmmakers who contribute to this genre.
My name is Tim Meunier and I am the festival director and founder of the Sacramento Horror Film Festival and Amber's Sweets Theatre Troupe.
Since 2007, I have worked extremely hard to bring the absolute best variety of independent horror cinema to the city of Sacramento. The festival has made great strives with the help of our generous sponsors in the past. Unfortunately, the current economic situation in the country and state has caused the flood of cash sponsors to become less than a trickle. In fact, sponsorship has completely dried up for us. As of this current posting we have acquired absolutely no cash sponsorships for the 2013 season.
This festival is my contribution to the art form that directed my life towards a more positive direction in 2007. Outside of working a full time job I've dedicated 100% of my time into giving filmmakers a quality platform in which to exhibit their cinematic talents. I work equally as hard to connect filmmakers with potential distributors so that others outside of the festival theater walls can be witness to their talents as well.
Parallel is the respect we offer to our loyal patrons who support us year after year. I do my best in booking music and performance art talent to entertain patrons in between film segments. One of our most popular draws, the Zombie Beauty Pageant, empowers our guests to use their creativity and transform themselves into one of horror cinema's biggest contemporary icon - the Zombie. Audience member's become the star of our show for an evening whilst competing with one another for the Zombie Beauty crown.
Every filmmaker, patron, performer, and staff member is valued. We commit ourselves to excellence and to continue and improve on our show we need your help.
A recent survey of 523 film festival directors, including myself, reveals the financial plight we all undergo in recent times.
* Under 15% of film festivals’ income comes from submission fees
* 14% of festivals regard their funding situation as “great” or better
We are reaching out to our many supporters, fans, sponsors and benefactors (known and unknown) this season in hopes that they can help us to increase our educational aspects (seminars and workshops for both aspiring and professional filmmakers and screenwriters), secure additional guests, performers, speakers, and increase our advertising reach.
This year's festival is scheduled for October 11th - 13th 2013.
Horror for us at the Sacramento Horror Film Festival is more than blood splattered celluloid. Horror is art, entertainment, and a culture. More importantly it provides joy. Please help us to continue our efforts for everyone to enjoy. Select a perk from the right and understand that your contribution to the 2013 Sacramento Horror Film Festival will be greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. Thank you.
