"...the world was built to develop character..."

I like to think of myself as a jack of all trades. I am a graduate student, public speaker, human rights activist, event planner, community developer, researcher, and now writer.

I am currently completing my Masters in Communication Management, specifically Strategic and Organizational Communication (with a specialization in Media, Government, and Social Policy), at Temple University and am hoping to graduate in 2013. I hope that this will help my communication skills and making a positive change in society using those specific skills and techniques.

I work for the nonprofit organization, Playgrounds for Palestine, as a Nonprofit Administrator and the Network of Arab-American Professionals of Philadelphia as part of their Advisory Board. I have worked in creating newsletters to spread the word on events in the Arab-American community as well as developed and planned events to strengthen and mobilize the Arab-American community to give back and interact amongst themselves. I have planned events promoting the performing arts, social events, galas, networkers, fundraisers, etc.

I got the opportunity Summer 2011 to visit my motherland, Palestine, with a group of 33 Palestinian-Americans as part of a program called "Know Thy Heritage." The three weeks spent in this program changed my life. It made me so much more passionate about the Palestinian cause and has made me more proactive about giving back and making a difference there. I was especially touched by the people of Aida Camp who are so kind and generous despite the difficult circumstances they are living in; it makes you so much more grateful for all that you have. We took a vested interest in the people there and in their new project to develop a museum in the camp and we pledged, as a group, to help them raise the funds for this project. This is why I have taken the step to creating the indiegogo page for this initiative because I believe in it and I believe in these people.

I hope that through my continued efforts and hard work I can either change the world we live in for the better or change even one person’s life for the better; I aspire to make an impact no matter how big or small.
