Neto Villalobos

San Jose, Costa Rica

Neto was born in San Jose, Costa Rica. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Costa Rica and a degree in Film Direction from the Centre d’Estudis Cinemàtografics de Catalunya (CECC) in Barcelona, Spain.

His short films “Jason”, “100 al Este”, and “El Papá de Ernesto”, among others, have won national awards and been screened at international festivals in cities and countries such as Cannes, Biarritz, Boston, Madrid, Buenos Aires, Berlin, Barcelona, Vancouver and Chile.

He has participated in workshops such as “¿Cómo se cuenta un cuento?” given by Gabriel García Márquez; the XI Film Project Analysis Colón Workshop, Typa Foundation, Argentina; XL Rotterdam Lab in Holland; Script Workshop given by Martín Rejtman and Federico León, and the Talent Campus of Berlin and Buenos Aires.

In addition, he currently directs short films and music videos, and teaches Cinematography Language at the Vèritas University, Costa Rica. 


Neto nace en San José, Costa Rica. Se gradúa en Sociología en la Universidad de Costa Rica y  posteriormente en Dirección Cinematográfica en el Centre de Estudios Cinematográficos de Catalunya. Barcelona, España.

Sus cortometrajes "Jason", "100 al Este" y "El papá de Ernesto" entre otros, han ganado varios premios y han sido proyectados en festivales de ciudades y países como: Cannes, Biarritz, Boston, Madrid, Buenos Aires, Berlin, Barcelona, Vancouver y Chile.

También ha participado en varios talleres, entre ellos: “Cómo se cuenta un cuento” con Gabriel García Márquez, el XI Análisis de Proyectos en el Taller de Guión de Typa; Colón, Argentina. XL Rotterdam Lab, Holanda; Taller de guión impartido por Martín Rejtman y Federico León y el Talent Campus del Berlinale y Buenos Aires entre otros.

Actualmente dirige cortometrajes y videoclips, así como imparte clases de Lenguaje Cinematográfico en la Universidad Vèritas en Costa Rica.
