I began my long affair with letterpress printing in the summer of 2004, while on an extended workshop at Barbarian Press, under the tutelage of Crispin and Jan Elsted. Soon after, I acquired my Chandler and Price 8x12 jobbing press, old-style with the serpentine flywheel.

I continued my exploration into handmade books, learning the rudiments of bookbinding and wood engraving.

In the summer of 2007, The Bowler Press began printing. Within two years, I produced my first book: Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest in an edition of 65 copies. I illustrated it with 10 engravings and bound it in quarter-velour with printed paper over boards. The book won a second-place finish in The Alcuin Society's Awards for Excellence in Book Design in Canada. I was over the moon. It has since been reviewed in Parenthesis: the Journal of the Fine Press Book Association and has been collected in five countries.

I enjoy this work immensely, but it also some of the hardest work I've ever done. I suppose that makes it more of a vocation than a profession.

I credit my success to those whom have made it possible: my wife, Caroline, our two daughters, family, friends, mentors, and my collectors, without whom I would have no audience. You allow me to push the limits of my creativity, the limits of my ability. Thank you.
