After a decade long stint in advertising when Sharmistha chose photography as her medium of expression, the transformation was dramatic. Before long, she had embarked on a journey as a committed documentary photographer. In the past she has photographed for BBC Media, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UNIFEM and Plan India. Apart from documenting social issues, shooting portraits and old architecture fascinates her. Her work has been published in several newspapers and magazines.
