Soprano, Chamber Musician, Fearless Collaborator

<p><span id="internal-source-marker_0.8689182911839162">Praised for &ldquo;powerful expression&rdquo; (San Francisco Classical Voice) and &ldquo;beautifully pure floated high notes&rdquo; (Opera News), soprano Ann Moss enjoys an active career in chamber music, recital, oratorio and opera performance. Recognized as a champion of contemporary vocal music, she has collaborated with acclaimed composers Jake Heggie, John Harbison, Aaron Jay Kernis, Eric Sawyer, and Wayne Peterson, and with emerging voices from across the United States including Liam Wade, Kurt Erickson, Sanford Dole, Miriam Miller, Vartan Aghababian, Heather Gilligan, Weslie Brown, Matthew O&rsquo;Malley, Ruth Huber, Allen Shearer, Kenneth Froelich, Jacob Bertrand, Erik Jekabson and Robert Kyr.</span><br /><br />Ann is co-founder and Artistic Director of <a href="" target="_blank">CMASH</a>, a new-music repertory group dedicated to fostering and sustaining long-term collaborative relationships between composers and performers. She is also a founding member of <a href="" target="_blank">One Art Ensemble</a>, a chamber ensemble highlighting new and historic works for soprano, viola and piano. She served on the 2008 &amp; 2011 faculty at <a title="CSU Summer Arts" href="" target="_blank">CSU Summer Arts</a>&rsquo; Composer/Performer Collaboration Workshop, and has delivered lectures on composition for the solo voice at MIT, University of Texas Pan America, Sacramento State University, California State University Los Angeles, and Cosumnes River College.<br /><br />Ann has premiered contemporary repertoire with M2B, <a title="Earplay" href="" target="_blank">Earplay</a>, <a title="Eco Ensemble" href="" target="_blank">Eco Ensemble</a>, <a title="One Art Ensemble" href="" target="_blank">One Art Ensemble</a>, <a title="New Music Works" href="" target="_blank">New Music Works</a>, <a title="San Francisco Lyric Opera" href="" target="_blank">San Francisco Lyric Opera</a>, the <a title="Ives String Quartet" href="" target="_blank">Ives String Quartet</a>, <a title="Alexander String Quartet" href="" target="_blank">Alexander String Quartet</a>, <a title="Hausmann String Quartet" href="" target="_blank">Hausmann String Quartet</a>, <a title="Sanford Dole Ensemble" href="" target="_blank">Sanford Dole Ensemble</a>, Composers in Red Sneakers, at the <a title="Sacramento Festival of New American Music" href="" target="_blank">Sacramento Festival of New American Music</a>, Fresno New Music Festival, SF Song Festival, <a title="Other Minds Festival" href="" target="_blank">Other Minds Festival</a>, <a title="Switchboard Music Festival" href="" target="_blank">Switchboard Music Festival</a>, <a title="Sonic Harvest" href="" target="_blank">Sonic Harvest</a>, <a title="CNMAT" href="" target="_blank">CNMAT</a>, and in frequent recitals of contemporary art song.<br /><br />Performances of historic repertoire include Haydn <em>Missa in Angustiis, Missa in tempore belli,</em>&nbsp;<em>Harmonimesse,</em>&nbsp;and Vaughan Williams <em>Dona Nobis Pacem</em>&nbsp;with Oakland Symphony Chorus, Handel <em>Acis &amp; Galatea</em> with California Bach Society, Schubert <em>Der Hirt auf dem Felsen</em> with Carey Bell &amp; Bryndon Hassman, Schubert <em>Mass in G</em> with conductor Jeffrey Thomas, Mozart <em>Magic Flute</em> (Queen of the Night) with Marin Symphony, Sch&uuml;tz <em>Kleine Geistliche Konzerte</em> with Pacific Collegium, Kuhnau <em>Magnificat</em> &amp; Zelenka <em>Requiem</em> with Chora Nova, Brahms <em>Liebeslieder Waltzes</em> with Paul Hersh &amp; Friends, Handel <em>Dixit Dominus</em> &amp; Scarlatti <em>Misse de S. Other operatic roles include Nannetta, Blondchen, Despina and Dew Fairy. Ann holds a Post Graduate degree in Voice Performance (2005) from <a title="San Francisco Conservatory of Music" href="" target="_blank">San Francisco Conservatory of Music</a> and a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance (2002) from <a title="Longy School of Music" href="" target="_blank">Longy School of Music</a>. Born in Lincoln, MA, Ann currently resides and teaches in the San Francisco Bay Area.<br /><br />Ann has participated in Master Classes with esteemed artists including Jose Van Dam, Nathan Gunn, Graham Johnson, Martin Katz, Jake Heggie, John Harbison, Craig Smith, and Barbara Kilduff. Private teachers include Sheri Greenawald, Wendy Hillhouse, Anna Gabriali and Rodney Gisick; coaches include Steven Bailey, Brian Moll, Paul Hersh, Wayman Chen, Brenda Miller, and Tim Bach. She attended the internationally renowned <a title="Songfest" href="" target="_blank">Songfest</a> program for two summers.<br /><br />Ann is a Reiki practitioner, enthusiastic Yogi, and pursues a lifelong interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine.</p>
