Hoping to Help Heal Hailey

Why I started the Healing Hailey Campaign...

Hailey's Grandmother, Lisa, and I worked together at my previous employer for close to 7 years. I spent more time with Lisa than anybody else in my life over the course of that time and we ended up becoming very good friends. (although we often bickered like that of an old married couple)

Lisa and I shared an extremely small office in which I heard it all. (sometimes more than I'd like!) Her phone conversations, her nails clicking the keyboard (too loudly in my opinion), her singing, all of it. During this time I also got to know the relationship between her and her only daughter, Sabrina. They talked on the phone CONSTANTLY. About EVERYTHING and ANYTHING. At first I thought it was irritating, but as I got to know them, really began to admire the relationship that they shared. It was not only a mother/ daughter bond, but also a sister and a best friend bond. Lisa was young when she had her only child Sabrina, and the relationship I have witnessed between the two of them is extroidinary. I couldn't imagine either of them having enough love left over for anybody else.

And then came Hailey.

When Sabrina gave birth to Lisa's granddaughter, Hailey, their entire family was ecstatic. Sabrina would send Lisa photos and video of Hailey daily, and I felt as if I watched her grow up from birth to the age she is now, 5. Hailey would visit us and be so excited to "play office". Lisa created her own Hailey "shrine" at our office and she was soon unbelievably bonded with Hailey, much as she is her daughter. Although I don't personally know Eric, only having met him a few times, I know he loves his little girl more than anything in the world.

Being the only grandchild on both sides of the family, Hailey is absolutely the light of everybody's lives on both her mom and and dad's side.

When I heard the news of Hailey being diagnosed with a Grade 4 rare form of brain cancer, I was beside myself. I still can not beleive it. I felt so frustrated that there was nothing I could do to help.

I have recently become a stay at home mom, so I had a lot of time to think about what I SHOULD be doing or how I COULD be helping. And then it dawned on me. There IS something I can do, and it was to start this campaign for Hailey, Sabrina, and Eric. Sabrina works as a server and Eric is a painter/ handyman of sorts. Needless to say, they certainly can not afford to NOT work. But as of two weeks ago, they had no option. Hailey has underwent TWO major brain surgeries, she currently receives physical therapy 3x a day, and was just recently released from the ICU. In one week she will begin an extremely intense chemo and radiation therapy up to 6 days a week. She will require 24/7 care and home schooling.

HOW on earth can anybody concentrate on work when their only daughter is suffering from this life threatening disease? I know they certainly shouldn't have to worry about things such as how they are going to pay their next months rent or how they are going to afford driving to and from the hospital. That's where I come in. This is where I can help, and I hope you can to.

Please feel free to message me with any questions or concerns. I can also be reached at allison.geschke@gmail.com.

Thank You,

Allison Geschke

Never give in... never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force... never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy. ~Winston Churchill
