Yoko grew up in a Buddhist temple in rural Kyoto, Japan where it was fashionable for girls to have bowl cuts (and she did). She then spent her formative years in the wintery city of Minneapolis, Minnesota submerged in its arts community, and she recently received her BFA in film/video at The California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).
