Widely
regarded as one of this generations next film directors to watch, YaKe has
made a name for himself as a filmmaker with a veracious style of storytelling
that takes an unflinching look at issues facing todays society.
YaKe
made his first film at the age of 15, while a student at Sam Houston High
School in his native San Antonio, TX and has yet to look back. His films have
received worldwide acclaim, screening and winning awards at over 40 film
festivals, including The Cannes International Film Festival. His films have
also screened on HBO, Showtime and BET J. He is the recipient of
a Directors Guild of America Student Film Award, a regional Student
Academy Award and an HBO Short Film Award.
YaKe graduated
with his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austins
film program. He just completed production on a documentary entitled Father and is fundraising for his debut
feature, which he plans to shoot in the near future. He is currently an
Assistant Professor of Art at the University of Texas at Arlington.
