A membership-based office center in Midtown NYC: Our performing arts workspace would feature leading technology, a virtual & physical resource library, and on site guidance from some of NYC's leading arts professionals.

For artists, by artists.

As an adventurous young actress, I came to NYC to pursue my career without many resources, connections or friends. In order to survive, I used the networking skills I learned working as a young activist & organizer to promote my acting career. Last year, I lost my survival job as a bartender, and as a result formed a consulting business, Maryland Monroe Consulting, to help other actors and performing artists with the same entrepreneurial spirit launch their careers, something I'd been doing informally for years. More on Maryland Monroe Consulting

Each client I have worked with has remarked that taking the time to work on the business of their art is one of the best things they have done for their career. Many performing artists however, also note that it is hard to find the space and time to do the things they need to do to succeed, and often need additional guidance to work on things like websites, industry mailings, learning social media, etc. Sometimes it is as simple a need as finding a space to print sides and resumes for an upcoming audition.

Your donation will help create a shared office space when performing artists can come to accomplish the hard work it takes to stay afloat in this bustling city.

What your dollar can do

In 2008, there were only 50,00 working actors in the entire United States. Some casting call lines seem that long. With your donation, we will be strengthening the New York City performing artist workforce by making our members more prepared, informed, and educated.

We will create an interactive learning space which contains a small library's worth of industry information, scripts, sheet music, casting notices, call sheets, sample promotional materials, and more.

We will train performing artists on cutting edge technologies, social media outlets, marketing skills and more so that they are empowered to apply the skills to their career, or elsewhere in the workforce.

We will instill each member artist with a sense of security and pride that is gained from walking into the office each day to focus on a career that they love.

We will help employ numerous out of work actors, musicians, dancers, and more who will then go on inspire others with their art.

No more starving artists. With your help, we will all be working artists.

The Office We Envision
We are hoping to rent an office space in Midtown Manhattan, and equip it with:

  • Multiple workstations, desks
  • Computers with Photoshop, web design creation tools, and more
  • Shared conference room and kitchen
  • Virtual library of usual documents, trade magazines, castings, industry guides
  • Physical library of industry mags, guides, call sheets, labels, and more
  • Necessary office supplies including headshot envelopes, highlighters, staplers, labels, organization tools and more
  • Online calendar for reserving the space and booking consulting sessions
  • EXPERT STAFF during all operating hours to assist members (So we aren't just helping artists get employed, we are also employing artists who are doing it right)
Have these things? Email us to make an in-kind donation.

What you get: By contributing, you get early access to member privileges, membership at a discounted rate, invitations to our launch party, and more! We are about building a community, and our contributors would be our first and most valued members of it.

We want to keep the membership costs low so that artists can afford to make this crucial process part of their daily life. Your contribution can help us avoid some of the overhead and offer quality services at a reasonable price.

Working with 2AMt
Thinking outside the black box, 2amt (www.2amtheatre.com) is a national, online conversation that is ongoing: even at 2am, when the innovative ideas always seem to flow. Began as a twitter hashtag (#2amt), the online dialogue boasts over 50 contributing bloggers and endless daily tweeters from some of the most prestigious theater organizations in the country. The conversation involves sharing best practices in innovative theater, frequent dialogue about social media and the arts, and more.

Also existing in 3D, the online community also participates offline in meetups, conferences, workshops and instruction all over the country. It's members are leading experts in the theater community, particularly in marketing and social media, and have served as valued consultants to numerous artists all over the country.

A natural partner for this project, 2amt has joined as a supporter to help to create this work space. Through our collaboration, we are also creating a base camp where these incredible theater innovators can meet, provide training and services to our members, host meetings, and more. As the 2amt collective grows, we are proud to partner with them to promote innovation in the national theater community at large.
