What is WAM?

Women's Audio Mission is a San Francisco based, non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of women in music production and the recording arts. In a field where women are chronically under-represented (less than 5%), WAM seeks to "change the face of sound" by providing hands-on training, experience, career counseling and job placement to women and girls in media technology for music, radio, film, television and the internet. WAM believes that women's mastery of music technology and inclusion in the production process will expand the vision and voice of media and popular culture.

What am I backing?

Your kind donations will go directly to cover travel expenses to get WAM to the 131^st Audio Engineering Society Convention in New York, October 20 23^rd, 2011 so that we can provide a critical presence and place for women to participate in this important event in our industry. The Audio Engineering Society (AES) convention is the largest audio convention in the world. AES unites audio engineers, creative artists, scientists and students worldwide by promoting advances in audio and disseminating new knowledge and research. It is critical for WAM to provide an accessible gateway and educational experience for women at this event. AES generously provides a booth but it is very costly for us to fly and stay in NY and we are having difficulty finding funding to support our trip. We have been able to provide a stable presence for women at the AES convention since 2004 and this year it is even more important that WAM is able to be there since we will be demonstrating a greatly expanded version of WAMs revolutionary online training portal, Sound Channel. Sound Channel provided college-level audio production training to over 5,600 students from 92 countries since the last AES convention and we want to make sure that even more people have access to the innovative online training materials of Sound Channel.

It takes a lot of work and effort to run a booth at a large convention like AES (expecting over 15,000 attendees), and your gracious donations will allow us to send Terri and 2 staff members to the convention to make this booth really sing and to allow us to create a daily video blog so that the over 850 women members from all over the world and the 5,000 subscribers to our social networking channels can also experience the 131^st AES convention.

If everyone connected to WAM just gave just $1, we could easily get to NY and you would make a whole bunch of women very happy to further their careers in audio.

Because we are a 501C3 non-profit organization, your contribution is tax-deductible, if funds are disbursed via PayPal directly to the tax exempt organization. If a contribution is made via direct credit card, the money goes to IndieGoGo first before being dispersed to WAM, which makes it legally invalid for tax deductible status. Contact WAM directly for instructions on getting a receipt for tax purposes.
