Our Story
WILD DOG is an observational documentary film drawing us into the lives of the people struggling to stem the tide of companion pet over population and its impact on society. After having explored the options of sterilization and rehoming, close to a million companion pets are still euthanized by animals shelters in South Africa every year.
What makes the story moving and engaging is the compassion with which such emotional demanding work is done.
The victories of small struggles, and the possibilities of love and hope against a stark landscape of rejection and abuse sets the canvas for this landmark story.
The Impact
The general public, especially in the less privileged (poorer) and denser populated areas are not aware of the pet over population crisis.
Otherwise they will become another statistic. Dying a slow and painful death during their life of neglect, or/and end up being euthanized. For this reason, sterilization of animals takes the number one priority of Animal Welfare agencies.
This film will be an eye opening reflection of where society stands in relation with their beloved companion pets.
The true value of the film is in its ability to be used as an outreach tool to educate the public about more humane ways of treating their animals. And perhaps even rekindle their love for the companion pets. But most importantly, it will place sterilization the number one priority on the agenda of every pet owner.
Upon completion, the film will be made freely available to organizations and community groups who are already doing animal welfare outreach work, or would like to start by using this video as a tool.
