Walking In Circles is an independent comedy fantasy web series that debuted in the summer of 2011 with an 11 episode first season. We filmed the entire project out of pocket and after release we began accepting donations to help market our show and to recoup some of our budget. The campaign was very successful thanks to the love and support of our awesome fans and because of that we were encouraged to write a second season.
In season 1 we were often limited in what we were able to put on screen. Aside from budget constraints, it was our first major film project. We were literally learning our jobs on a day to day basis on set. Fortunately, everyone from cast to crew was not only amazingly talented but passionate about the project. Because of this we were able to produce an awesome show that we’re all extremely proud of. We really want to take all the skills we acquired during the filming of Season 1 and produce something that goes above and beyond for Season 2. When you take a look at what we were able to achieve the first time around, you’ll see that we’re really setting the bar high for ourselves. Filming a medieval fantasy/comedy means every piece of wardrobe needs to be period specific, every prop has to be custom made; every set has to be isolated from modernity. Working in a fantasy setting also means that some of the characters we want to bring to life are going to be set pieces all of their own, the best example being the dragon from Season 1. We know that this show is a massive undertaking but we also know that when we pull it off it’s going to blow people away.To help us achieve these goals we’re enlisting some amazing new talent in front of and behind the camera.
Walking In Circles is a project that we all feel very connected to on many levels. We love the characters, we love the story, we love the setting, the humor, the process of making it all come to life. We’re all really excited to get to work on WIC: Season 2 and we know we’re bringing something special to the web series world that people are going to love as much as we do.
As we said, Walking In Circles Season 1 was filmed entirely
out of pocket. Unfortunately, we just don’t have the money to do it again. Just
maintaining our production value from Season 1 would be an expensive endeavor,
but our plans to exceed it mean we really need your help. Every dollar we
receive through this campaign will go directly into the show. Anything you can
contribute will make a difference. Even a dollar increases our presence on
indiegogo.com, making it more likely that other people will see the campaign.
Breaking It Down
To film our second season we're asking for $50,000. This is a huge amount of money compared to what we had to work with for season 1. One of the reasons for this is that we would like to be able to pay our cast and crew for the vast amount of work we're asking them to do. In season 1 everyone worked for free and we would like to reward that commitment by giving them a paycheck for season 2.
One of the things we're planning to do with season 2 is to take our show to a location about three hours away from our home in Los Angeles. To do this, we'd need to house the cast and crew in cabins, have three meals a day for everyone we bring out, pay for everyone's gas to get there,
Of course, then there are the more obvious expenses for production. We need costumes, props, some new equipment and maintenance on equipment we already have. We need proper lighting and a green screen.
Post production is a huge expense all in its own. One thing that digital filming requires a lot of is storage space. We filled up nearly 10 terabytes in season 1 and we're going to need at least as much space for season 2. Then, of course, a computer capable of handling the editing work. The computer we used for season 1 was barely able to meet the demands of the editing software and we simply have to have a new one for season 2.
