About Me

Born in Montreal to Chilean parents who came as refugees to Canada, escaping from the military dictatorship of Pinochet. Lived in Monteal, New York and New Jersey until the age of 12, then moved to Gemany. Took an M.A. in Film Studies and American Literature at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. Also attended violin and composition courses at the Peter-Cornelius Conservatory. Currently residing in Madrid.

Film began to fascinate me at an early age. My first memories are of Chaplin…sitting too close to the TV, the old black and white images flashing in front of me, laughing until my sides hurt. I also remember acting in my dads amateur videos, based on Beatles songs, edited in the camera, the titles made of flickering yellow 90s computer font. Both aunt Marilu and uncle Mike made films professionally, and though I couldnt yet grasp the documentaries, Vincent and Me and The Peanut Butter Solution (Mike Rubbo)were family favorites.

After finishing school I began to prepare for the violin entrance exam at the faculty of music, hoping to then go on to study composition and
write film scores. In the meantime I took courses in literature at the university and evetually enrolled in film studies. During my studies, I worked on various productions
including two experimental films by Luis Ortiz and numerous documentary projects in collaboration with Campus TV. I translated for international films such as Melanie Bruns Sin Cancion no Habra Revolucion.

I also wrote, produced and directed two short films of my own. My documentary Mike Rubbo: Portrait of a Filmmaker was selected for production by the film faculty and screened
at the “Ciclo de Cine Latino de Mainz”, as well as the film festival “Primer Festival de Cortos de la Ventilla” in Madrid.

After earning my M.A. I did an internship as assistant director/producer for Andrzej Klamt and Christoph Schuch, where I gained valuable experience in independent documentary production.

If all goes well, I will begin filming my first full-length documentary, “The Birth of Cinema in Kinshasa” in November. I am applying for financing and would be thrilled to receive any and all donations! Im also working on the script for a film on my great aunt Susana Guevara. This weekend I will be filming a video clip for the song “Duckworth” (Violeta Braa/Andrea Krass), based on the legendary words of cameraman Martin Duckworth.
