UPDATE: All of Shchelkunchik's show dates have passed and we are now working on tying up loose ends. While the show is finished we still have a long way to go in terms of taking care of business on our end. Thank you for all the support we have received. If you are viewing this page for the first time, we welcome you. If you have visited our page before, we need your help. Please make a tax exempt contribution today...in a couple of weeks you will be able to write it off, and you will be directly investing in a show you've already given your approval to.
Our Story
Hello, I am Jennifer Wood the founder, Artistic Director and Choreographer of Suchu Dance in Houston TX. Suchu Dance is a contemporary dance company which has won many awards and captured the hearts and emotions of thousands of patrons throughout our 13 seasons in Houston. Our dancers are highly trained, have formed a close bond with one another and are both excited and eager to put on new productions. Suchu Dance brings a high production value at a very affordable cost. We are able to consistently provide a unique experience as a service to Houston. Each production is finely crafted: each costume is custom tailored and custom made for the show; the lighting design, the sound design, the set design, the marketing are all unique to each show. A Suchu Dance production is not predictable and audience members often seem to say they enjoyed the variety, surprises, laughed and really enjoyed themselves. For more information about our company and to read some of the company bios, or to read about our past performances, head over to our website at www.suchudance.org.
Suchu Dance will continue to offer an unpredictable and enjoyable experience for our patrons for all of our shows, however, for our very next show we are doing something very special but need your help to put it on. We are raising $6000 so that we can put on our version of a deconstructed Nutcracker titled Shchelkunchik happening on December 1-4, 2011 in the Barnevelder Theater. For more information about the show, please visit www.suchudance.org. Loosely using the original story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King." Shhelkunchik is the Russian word for the Nutcracker Ballet. If we didn't have to pay the light bill and if the dancers could just survive off of carrot sticks and I could just survive off of rolling on a medicine ball (feels good) the next show would be completely free. Our next show is going to be something Suchu Dance has never done before in its 13 seasons, and to give it its full potential and to really pack a solid pleasurable experience we are asking you to play a direct role in it. We are extending our funding goal until January 9, 2012. We are hopeful that 60 days from now, through your help, most of our expenses with the cost of this production will be covered.
If we do not raise all of the funds, the show will go on, but will cause a burden on the dancers and the Suchu Dance organization, for this show and subsequent shows. Let's face it, many have been concerned about the recent economy and oftentimes arts organizations in Texas have to make do with crumbs. This year we want to be able to give you something specialan exclusive Suchu production, hopefully like no other version of a Nutcracker you've ever experienced. While Suchu Dance has proven over the years that it can put on a show fueled with nothing else but sheer willpower, this time, if we cannot pay for the production to deliver its fullest potential, it will be evident and not the Suchu Dance experience you were eagerly awaiting. Your donation will directly help put on Shchelkunchik. Even if we do not meet our entire goal, rest assured your funds will go directly towards the production of this show. We have 60 days; we can make this happen. That's only $100 from 60 compassionate individuals. Your contribution is completely 100% tax deductible.
