THE SPREAD

In short, "The Spread" is a comic book about a sexually transmitted disease that turns the majority of the world into brain-hungry zombies.  If that doesn't do it for you, let us assure you that this book will not be like any horror or undead story you will ever read. It's a magnificent project, a story that takes us from today until the end of civilization, a story of human beings from every walk of life, and a story about the most fundamental human needs for freedom, lust, and survival.  And of course, there's tons of zombies eating peoples brains.  The comic blends some of the darkest, black-humor you will ever read, horror, science fiction, and maybe just a little bit of social commentary, all under the guise of a graphic and violent story about a zombie apocalypse.

SYNOPSIS

In the year 2011, an outbreak of a highly contagious and deadly disease envelops the globe. It is more horrific than anything the world has ever seen and quickly consumes nearly 3/4 of the earths population. The cause of the disease is unknown, there is no cure, and only a few pieces of information exist as to how and why this catastrophe has occurred. 

WE ONLY KNOW TWO THINGS.  First: the disease is sexually transmitted, and spreads more rapidly and impossible to prevent than any other sexually transmitted disease in history. Second: the disease turns those infected into sex-crazed, brain-eating zombies.

"The Spread" is a zombie story like none ever told before. Follow an epic cast of characters throughout a ten year period as they try to survive, by any means necessary, and cope with not only the fact that the world is crumbling around them, but that the only way to survive is to suppress their most basic human instincts.  We follow a vast cast of characters from across the globe as the disease takes hold of the planet, and witness the reaction in all spectrums of humanity as the earth's citizens are forced between a choice of infinite celibacy, or certain death.

FAQ:  SO WHO ARE THESE FUNKTOONS GUYS?

That's a good question.  We're actually called FINKTOONS, not Funktoons, but it's an honest mistake.  Also we are an art collective, sketch-comedy, animation, and now, comic book troupe from San Francisco, California.  In late 2009, Brandon Fink and Tyler Moazed created Finktoons.  They started as a sketch comedy troupe, launching a series of super short, highly volatile and generally insane cartoons and skits on top of the world wide web.  What began as two friends making cheap and raunchy cartoons in their basement quickly grew beyond their lowly aspirations.  In two years Finktoons has become a creative force-from directing independent films, to animating pieces for Disney and BMW, but all the while has maintained their independent DIY approach to their work.  The collective has added countless collaborators, but now the core team of Fink and Moazed are back, partnering with Michael Morgan, one of the most phenomenal illustrators in San Francisco, to bring you their grandest endeavor to date, "The Spread."

What We Need & What You Get

Our plan for this comic is straight forward.  We want to self-publish the first issue, as a sort of "pilot" for the series, and distribute them ourselves.  "The Spread" will be an ongoing, serialized comic book, as opposed to a graphic novel.  Our goal is to raise $2500 to print 1,000 high-quality, uniquely printed copies of the first issue.  We have so much faith in this project, and sincerely hope you do to, and we know that if and when the first issue comes to fruition, it will have legs of its own.  In the long run we plan to raise the funding or sell enough issues to keep the series in print ourselves for a long, long time.  

What we need from all of our friends and future collaborators out there is either of two simple things:

YOUR TIME:

-Blog about how excited you are for this comic, and pass the word along as well.  When we do inevitably print this book, we need people to be ready for it.
